How To Drink In Colour – A Walking Meditation Technique for Soul Healing

Have you ever had a rough day? Silly question. Of course you have. Like you, I have my occasional difficult patch, that place in my life where emotionally (and sometimes physically) I am stretched thin. Sometimes it’s from psychic work, sometimes the dramas of life – it never really matters how I get there, once I am there the only thing to do is nurture.

But what do you do when you feel that terrible gnawing emptiness, exhaustion, or deep emotional pain? When you are so drained that you are out of ideas for how to make yourself feel better…

I recommend a walk.

On this walk I want you to do three things:

Breathe.

Let the rhythm of your steps begin to calm your mind, just like a moving meditation.

Drink in colour.
How do you drink in colour? Let your eyes drift to the things around you. Your soul will guide you towards colours that are soothing, healing, restoring, harmonising. Your chakras and your aura will become more energised. The colours you bring into your awareness will bring gifts to soothe and uplift you.

You’ll arrive home feeling calmer. You’ll find that eventually, or much sooner, answers and ideas start to flow.

Walking and drinking in colour is free. But the rewards are high. Often the best healing tools are right at our doorstep.

Recharge You and Your Chakras in Five Minutes!

Chakras are energetic gateways or portals. Each has its own colour, and governs different areas and emotions within the body. I have meditated on each of the following images, and programmed each picture to energise, open, balance and heal your chakras.

How to use today’s blog:

  1. Slowly scroll down the page, gazing at each picture in turn.
  2. Notice which picture (or pictures) is more vibrant and attractive to you.
  3. Go back to that image (images) and spend a little longer.  Draw that colour deep into your body.  See if any words, impressions, emotions or images come up for you. You might even want to use that as the beginning of a journalling activity. These colours will feed and energise your chakras and are great indicators of what chakras are already flowing and working well or in the process of opening and healing.
  4. Also pay attention to any pictures that seem very flat and energetically unappealing. Note what chakra that picture relates to.  Once again see if any words, impressions, emotions or images come up for you. This flat energy will correspond to chakras that are blocked, stagnant or stuck.  Send them some white light and a little extra love.
  5. Run your eyes over the images again.  See if there is any change.  Eventually you’ll find that all of the pictures have an equal brightness as you come back into balance.

Are you taking care of you?

Many of my friends are healers. They come from widely different schools and philosophies of healing – general medical practitioners, environmental medicine specialists, acupuncturists, naturopaths, herbalists, body workers, nutritionalists and all manner of other modalities. Over the past twenty years all of them have observed one thing; the number of people suffering long-term chronic illness, digestive issues, stress-related health issues and fatigue has soared. Not only that, many of the simple treatments that once worked so well for bringing people back into balance no longer are as effective.

Why?

There are many external factors – more exposure to pollutants and chemicals, little exercise, poorer diet, less sunshine.

But even when these things are addressed many people are slow to heal. I, and many of my learned practitioner friends, believe at least part of this is to do with the state of mind we are in.

There have been numerous studies done which show that when a person is relaxed the surface tension of their skin changes. Their blood pressure lowers, their heart slows, the chemicals responsible for sleep, blood sugar and hormonal balance rise and stabilise. In a place of relaxation people become more creative, more connected, happier, more adept at innovative thinking and problem solving. In a place of relaxation our bodies find it far easier to heal. It is impossible to think a negative thought when you are in a deeply relaxed state.

What does negative thinking have to do with my health?

Go ahead. Think of something that really makes you mad. Or powerless. Feel the changes take place in your body. You will feel heavier, there will be a sense of tension in your face and body. You may have a surge of adrenalin or a sudden draining away of energy. Your heart speeds up, you may feel clammy and hot, agitated or ill. This is not your imagination – this is your body’s autonomic response to your thoughts. This is a natural reaction to perceived stress within your body. Worry, stress, fear, panic, over-thinking; this is what is stopping you from healing.

Over time, this sort of thinking has a destructive impact on the body. It exhausts our adrenals. It puts pressure on our thyroid and other parts of our endocrine system. Our liver becomes stressed and congested and can’t function as well as it used to as it deals with the flood of naturally occurring chemicals WE have created in our body through the stress response.

In this place of adrenal depletion we can become addicted to caffeine, energy drinks, sugar and carbs to keep us functioning.

The blood is always in our extremities as we ready ourselves to fight or flee (the stress response once again) so our digestion slows and becomes impaired. Even if we gain weight we may still be massively malnourished, and our body may struggle to absorb supplements, herbs and better food.

We may resort to anti-depressants or sleeping pills. We may self-medicate with drugs or alcohol. Or we may just go through life exhausted, sick and not coping but needing to get up and get on with it each day.

Our sleep becomes affected, and that avenue of healing becomes further reduced. No matter who we see, or what we try nothing seems to work. Or it doesn’t work for long.

Sound familiar?

If you are living with stress and anxiety, if there is something or someone in your life, orfrom your past, that causes you to feel unsafe, inadequate, fearful, anxious, angry, resentful, or shamed… then it’s going to be an uphill battle to become well and stay well.

Positive emotions impact your health positively. Negative emotions impact your life negatively.

The longer a negative emotion is the ugly background wallpaper in your life, the more you get accustomed to it, but don’t be fooled. It will still be affecting you. And not in a good way.

Let me repeat an important point. It is impossible to experience a negative emotion when you are in a relaxed state.

What this means for your health is simple. When you are relaxed, your body can know healing. When you are relaxed your body can do what it needs to do to put itself back into balance, and to put you back into flow, connection and clarity.

So, by all means find yourself a skilled healer, a physician, or a team to put your body back together. But remember you also need to do your part. You need to take care of the housekeeping of your mind.

Do things that relax you. Practice meditation, yoga or tai chi. Listen to music. Go for walks in nature.Take the dog! Make time for YOU in your life. Do the things that give you peace. Find people, places and activities that nourish, validate and support you.

Let go of what no longer serves you in your life.

And if you need to, seek a counsellor, psychologist, psychiatrist – someone trained in helping you undo what has bound you up in knots.

I know this to be true: When your mind can know peace, your body can know healing – or at the very least an improvement in pain levels and quality of life.

Honour your body, work with your mind, and live from your heart. Your body has an infinite wisdom, and that wisdom is free to reign when we are in a place of relaxation and ease. Do all you can to find or create that peaceful place within you. Healing can then be a natural flow-on effect of that energy.

Managing your vibration – simple techniques for increasing intuition and awareness

Our thoughts and emotions have a strong impact on our vibrationary level. Know what I mean by that?  Try this. Think of a time when someone or something really upset you.  Go back to that time and relive it in your mind.  Feel your body become tense and your heart rate increase.  Feel the anger or sadness or whatever other predominant emotion you may recall begin to flood your consciousness.

By invoking these thoughts and emotions you have consciously lowered your rate of vibration.  Negative self-talk will have the same effect.  Telling yourself that you are dumb, fat or not good enough rockets you into a lower vibration.  So does listening to people who talk down to you or show you a lack of love and respect.  Environments can have the same effect.  Is there anywhere or anyone that makes you feel uncomfortable?  Pay attention to how this affects your life, your thoughts and your actions.

Close your eyes and think of a time when you have felt positive, successful, happy or victorious.  Feel the love of someone close, or of an adored pet.  Imagine a beautiful place or natural environment.  Notice how you begin to feel expansive, calm, happy, joyful and powerful.  This is you moving to a higher vibration.

You have done all of this just with the power of your mind!

Now that you understand how this works, you can begin to consciously work with this power to lift your vibration and help you feel good about yourself.  As our vibration raises we become more spiritually and psychically aware, and can more easily access our intuition and psychic gifts. It also enhances our body’s ability to heal.

Vibrationary triggers

Make a note in your journal of things you can use to help raise your conscious vibration.  Experiment with clothes, colours and food – see how these affect your mood and self-image.  What makes you smile?  Fresh flowers, a happy baby, a hug, a note from a friend, or maybe your favourite music?  Place things in your environment that are positive emotional triggers, and that hold happy memories or thoughts.  Practice telling yourself how much you love YOU (this can be a hard one – but keep trying!) and remind yourself of your good qualities and talents, no matter how small.  Remove items that have negative associations.  Whenever you find yourself feeling anxious or upset or angry STOP!  Breathe….  Centre yourself (see info below).  Remind yourself of the blessings in your life.  Tell yourself that you are powerful and that you choose how you live in this moment.  Breathe in LOVE and breathe out negativity.  It works!

Centering

Find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed for at least ten minutes.  Sit or lie quietly and focus on your breathing.  Take slow, deep breaths.  Gradually you will feel yourself calming and becoming more relaxed.  You will have an awareness of your body and mind.  This is a meditation technique called ‘centering’.  Centering is all about bringing our conscious awareness back to a place of calm.  Feel your energy within your body.  You may want to visualise it as a white or golden ball of Light within your abdomen or around your heart.

Notice any tensions and consciously let go of them, encouraging deeper and deeper relaxation.  Know that any time, and at any place, you can bring your energy back to a place of centeredness just by taking a few conscious deep slow breaths and imagining that ball of Light within you.  When you are centred you call back all of your scattered energy, and it helps you to remain calm and to be in your Power.  Being centred encourages good decisions and fosters intuition and integrity.

We can’t control the world around us, but we can make conscious choices about what we choose to focus on, and what thoughts we fill our minds with.  It is worth the effort to manage our vibration – feeling good always leads to improvements and new opportunities in the world around us.

The restorative power of deep rest

We are not the people we know as ourselves, but creatures more in tune with a tree than a keyboard. We are untitled, unnamed, natural, suspended between was and will be, the tadpole before the frog, the worm before the butterfly. We are for a few brief moments, anything and everything we could be. And then…and then — ah — we open our eyes and the day is before us and … we become ourselves.”

Don’t you just love the image of the sleeping jellyfish? It’s the sort of whimsical possibility my mind constantly entertained when I was a child, although I never imagined that they might sleep upside down!

I was lying on my acupuncturist’s treatment table yesterday as he felt my pulse and tut-tutted in his mad professor way at the energies within my body, the colour and texture of my tongue and his many other diagnostic tools. He knew it. I know it. The past couple of weeks of family illnesses and drama have exhausted me.

Hmmm, he said. Deep rest. That’s what you need. Deep rest, and rice and beans and sprouts. Warm foods. Warm liquids. No stimulants. No spices. Deep rest. Sleep.

I know he’s right. A good deep rest now and I’ll be back to normal. For me, deep rest is not just sleeping. It’s also quiet time. Time pulled back from the needs and demands of others. Time stepped back from work and busy-ness.

The alternative? I’ve been down that path, and I know you have too. In fact, I know some of you are walking it right now. That’s the path of pushing. We’re tired but we keep getting up. We’re exhausted but we fill ourselves with caffeine or sugar or both, and we force ourselves to keep on going. We bribe ourselves, pep-talk ourselves, bully ourselves and trash-talk ourselves to get our bodies upright and responsive. We push, push, push. And then we break.

All the while we think that we are okay to keep going. We’re not. We’re barely in our bodies. We’re drunk on lack of sleep. Our innovation and enthusiasm, our ability to bounce back, to laugh it off, to create with joy – all of that is missing.

It can be found again through deep rest.

That’s what I’m doing right now, and will be for the next few days. I’m doing a disservice to myself and to you if I don’t.

Today I’m asking you if you’re okay. Do you need to rest? Do you need to step back for a moment? We can’t help others sustainably nor keep on creating if we are not looking after ourselves first. The energies of 2018 do not support push in any form. If you’re pushing, it won’t be working. Look for another way. Your best solution is most likely to be taking a break, refreshing yourself, and then starting again.

Just Tell One Person…

Did you read yesterday’s post about the energy of this week? It’s a week of help coming our way, and of hope being restored, but first… first it’s a week that may be quite hard for some. It’s an energy where many of us will feel regret, remorse, guilt, shame, pain or sorrow as we look back on the past and realise that we can’t change it, or that we may need to let go of cherished dreams and plans we’ve long held for our future, leaving us with uncertainty as we look forward in life.

It’s also a week where we can come face-to-face with habits, behaviours and attitudes that are harming us, and where we know we need to change or get help because now we see what we are doing or what we are ignoring and we know we can’t keep living like this.

So, for those of you in that hard place – with shames you are hiding, and fears you are nursing – take the first step and tell someone you trust, or a stranger of good repute whose calling is to help people with the kind of problem that you do.

When we tell someone our truth we shed light on this difficult thing and we crack open the place from where it can begin to transform.

When we hold a secret to our chest it weighs us down more and more with every year. When we hold a secret to our chest and tell no-one of our plans to change it is easy to back out on the promises we made to ourselves. You only need to tell one person, to take one step, to open your circle of one into a circle of two.Two is where change happens, and hope returns. When someone else knows, the problem that has become beyond your ability to fix on your own suddenly has a chance to be healed.

Who can you tell this week? My wise old Nana always used to tell me that a problem shared is a problem halved, and the older I become the more I know it to be true.

This is a gentle, restorative and supportive retreat, where you will be mentored and guided by me and my team every step of the way, and in the company of people who will become great friends over the course of our time together.

No matter how much of a beginner you feel, or how long it has been since you have had a regular spiritual practice you will find what you need on this retreat.

My Meditation Practice for this Group:

Before the Retreat begins, I choose a bead for each of you, and string it into a meditation mala. The bead will have a shape and texture that makes it individual within the group, just like you. Next, I spend significant time in prayer and meditation for YOU, asking what you most need, and how I can best help you.

Then I put together your kit. Each kit is personal and designed for your specific energetic and spiritual needs. The kit has everything you need for the duration of the course, including a personal crystal chosen by me, and programmed just for you. The kit will be given to you at our introduction session.

For two weeks prior to the course commencement, during the course, and for two weeks following the completion of our activities, I will meditate for you and the group twice a day; once in the morning, and once in the evening, for a total of four hours. During this time I will send you healing, work on you energetically, and help lift you into the space that will best serve you. It􏰀’s an act of huge devotion, and everyone who has worked with me has felt the effects of my efforts during these meditation sessions.

Monday Oracle – 4 December 2017

Hello, Lovelies!

December is a month for gifts of pleasure, true abundance and celebration. Keep that in mind as we look at the gifts which the oracle card Discovery brings us.

So, what awareness does Discovery bring us this week?

This week is all about forgiveness, sitting in our heart space, letting go of judgement and criticism of self and others, and being able to embrace the moment while becoming open to receive as we draw opportunities and adventures to us for the year ahead. It’s time to forgive ourselves for all of those moments in our lives we look back on and wince. It’s time to forgive others, to allow for new connections or healing to replace that energy of stuckness, pain, anger and shame.

I’m loving this week’s energy. I’ve just finished a BIG meditation for you, focusing on opening up to new possibilities and becoming comfortable with change. (It supports and continues the intention work I did with our crystal grid for 2018 on retreat last week.)

When we keep comparing our life to how it was a week, a month, years ago, it holds us in the past, and prevents us seeing the wonderful things in front of us right now. This week Discovery encourages us to let go of our attachment to needing situations or people to ‘go back’ to how they were in the past, or dwelling on ‘how they could have been’. If you’ve found yourself drowning in regret and melancholy, stuck in the past or glorifying how things were or ‘might have turned out if only things had happened differently’, this is your week to break that unhealthy attachment to wanting to recreate the impossible.

We finally begin to understand that we are changed, and can never return to who we were yesterday, a month ago, a decade ago. That person no longer exists because we have evolved and moved forward. The Universe is an ever-expanding force, and so are you. This holds true for everyone around you. None of us is the same person we were. Everyone and everything changes. We can never go back, only forward.

Discovery opens us to change and new life. It’s a week for letting go in order to embrace the new. As every door closes another one opens.

Keep reminding yourself that life is an unfolding miracle and you are worthy of love and all good things. It’s true, and I’m holding that space for you in my meditations this week.

Supportive crystals this week?

Clear Quartz lifts your vibration and opens you to flow. I’m loving Young Living’s Envision this week. It’s an oil blend I often use in my workshops and retreats to help my students connect to inner wisdom and intuition. It helps us to see a greater possibility for ourselves. Use Envision for spiritual connection, inspiration and breakthroughs. Dab a drop on your Crown Chakra, back of neck, over your heart, wrists and the soles of your feet, inhale directly or add to your diffuser. 

Want to make your own blend? Each of the following oils will work beautifully on their own for you this week, but they’ll also make a delicious combination for diffusing. Frankincense for spiritual and intuitive connection and restoration of faith. Geranium for stress reduction and emotional balance, and for evoking a sense of peace and goodwill. Orange for optimism and happiness. Pine for being grounded and centred in ourselves as we open to our highest potential. Hello, Lovelies!

If you read my forecast for September, you’ll know that it’s a month of possibility and expansive energy, of change and curiosity, and of starting small projects that may take a long time, but that we care about deeply. Keep that in mind as we look at the gifts which the oracle card Recovery brings us.

So, what awareness does Recovery bring us this week?

This is a card of hope, heralding a time of intense healing, breakthroughs, self-discoveries and, for some, the need to answer a personal calling.

Got a problem? Recovery reassures you there are solutions and that the best way to deal with your problem is to stop going it alone and seek someone who has successfully walked the same hard road that you now struggle with. This week, find a mentor, a teacher, a counsellor, expert, therapist, course or coach. Walk that hard road with their guidance.The best criteria for choosing someone to work with? They’ve travelled the road ahead of you and are now in a better place – or they are deeply experienced in bringing positive results to someone in your situation and have a track record of success. How do you find the right person? Ask questions, use word of mouth, look for evidence of good results, trust that the right kind of help can show up in your life.

There’s no need to reinvent the wheel. Why make life harder for yourself than it has to be? This week use someone else’s system, knowledge, road map.

It’s also a great week for deep thinking and reflection, journalling and self-work. Ask, and expect answers. Even more, expect to gain understanding and knowledge so that you can make lasting change in your life.

For a select few this is also a week where you will feel stirred to answer a calling. You see, you will be the one who blazed the trail and survived the hard journey. If that’s you, it’s time to use that experience to help guide and support others. You can be the teacher, healer, guide or author that you wished you’d been able to find for yourself.
