Join Me For A New Journalling and Oracle Card Challenge?

chakra-journal-challenge-2

“The closer you come to knowing that you alone create the world of your experience, the more vital it becomes for you to discover just who is doing the creating.”
~ Eric Michael Leventhal

Keeping a journal is something I’ve done since I was a child. I don’t mean a simple diary, where you record the events of the day. You know what I mean… I ate this. I did this. Someone said that. No. I mean a place where I could explore ideas, talk with myself, and find my own answers.

Over the last few years I’ve created several journal challenges here on my blog, and I’ve just made a new one for you, to take advantage of the fabulous energies March and April bring for uncovering the hidden and neglected aspects of yourself, and for determining where you are out of step with yourself, so that you can bring your life into alignment with your true nature and values. It’s a great time for getting to know yourself better and for forging new directions in your life. Would you like to join me?

We’ll be starting this new challenge on Tuesday 28 February, so that you have time to gather your resources together. Our first Tuesday will be an orientation day. Then each Tuesday for March and April I will have a new journal activity for you to complete during the week. You’ll need a minimum of ten minutes to set aside each week for writing, and an additional five minutes per day for five out of seven days for energy work on yourself to facilitate your own healing and wellbeing. I’ll teach you everything you need to know. You can be a complete beginner at all of this!

I will be using the Chakras as a guide for this challenge. You don’t need to know anything about them either. All you need to do is bring a willingness to know yourself better.

live-true

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A new journal. Choose one that feels right for you. Make sure there are enough pages to get you through nine activities.
  • Some pens and pencils.
  • A crystal or stone to use as a gratitude and focus stone. (If you’re doing my Year of ME program feel free to use your 2017 stone for this challenge!)
  • A deck of oracle or tarot cards.
  • A sense of adventure and a readiness to explore your inner world.

NB: A note on choosing oracle or tarot cards – choose cards whose pictures and messages are meaningful to you. Avoid cards such as tarot decks that show only coins or cups etc. Instead choose a deck whose imagery really speaks to you. It’s the pictures that matter. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to use them. I’ll be showing you.

That’s my own journal, cards and stones in the picture below. I’ll be right beside you doing each week’s activities too. My gratitude rock is a smoky quartz and amethyst point (that’s the big one – the other two are a tourmalinated quartz and a prehnite that live in the same bag as my oracle cards and who came with me on my holidays). The oracle cards I’ll be using are Colette Baron-Reid’s Enchanted Map cards. And I just bought a new journal from a cool bookstore here in Vietnam, where I am currently travelling. It’s just the right size for our challenge and not too heavy in my luggage. (I won’t tell you about the other five journals I bought at the same place…)

A Short But Important Message For You

2013-03-19-14-06-57

“One of the greatest regrets in life is being what others would want you to be, rather than being yourself.”
~ Shannon L. Alder

Every morning when I wake up I sit in meditation.

I say prayers for my family and friends, I send healing to those who need it, I send energy and love to my students, and then to the world.

After which I always think about you, dear readers, and I ask ‘What do my readers most need to know today?’ This usually helps me to write a blog post, or to prepare an activity or meditation.

Today when I asked, I got a very clear message. So clear that all I need do is record it here:

“Everyone on earth should believe that they have something to give the world which cannot otherwise be given.”

I know that this is true.

And I know that it’s a message some of you absolutely needed to be reminded of today.

So, go be you. Go be who you are and know that this is enough. To live as yourself. To act and think as yourself. To interact with others as yourself. To love as yourself. Your true self. You whole self.

Even if you have never been brave enough to be you until now.

Because it’s time.

I love you.

Go well today,

Nicole ❤ xx

My Top Five Ways To Get Some Reflection Time

“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.”
~ Søren Kierkegaard

We’re sitting in a terrific month for reflection, reinvention and connection.

So how do we do that?

Here are my top five ways to find that headspace where we can explore the past and imagine the future…

1 – Going for a solitary walk

A long walk gives us time to move into a space of quiet receptivity. Thoughts can bubble to the surface. Insights can find us. We get quiet enough to be open. Ideas come. You can walk in nature, through city streets or around your suburb. What matters is that you’re moving, and that you’re on your own so that you don’t need to engage in conversation. (Walking the dog is fine though!)

2 – Time out for a coffee and some world watching

Find a coffee shop where you can sit on your own, with a view of the world. You might be facing a busy street, you might be at the back of the shop looking out over all the patrons, you might be perched at a window seat, or at an outdoor cafe under a tree. You could even sit in a busy shopping mall. Grab your favourite coffee (or tea) and then just sit and watch the world go by. Don’t read. Don’t talk. Just sit with the world and with your thoughts. Eventually you’ll find a meditative space that lets you think deeply. Let your mind ramble. It will go where it needs to. Pay attention to where it wanders. Explore that more. If you want, take that further with some journalling.

3 – Soak in a bath

Just you, some bubbles, and lots of lovely soak time. Let your mind wander, or just sit and soak and rest. Trust that you’ll be integrating and getting what you need from this time alone.

4 – Journalling, at the quiet end of the day

This could be first thing in the morning or last thing at night when the house is quiet and you have time and space just for you. Pick up your pen, and write. Dump your brain onto the page and then keep going. Let the words flow. You might be surprised where they take you.

5 – Journalling time with some oracle or tarot cards for further reflection

Oracle and tarot cards are a great way to reflect on life. Choose a card. Think about what it signifies for you. Explore this in your journal.

What Are You Ready To Give Up?

“Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I know because I’ve done it thousands of times.”
~ Mark Twain

Tomorrow, the 17th of December, sees the beginning of the energies of the new year arriving.

2017 will show her face early this year. So that means today truly is the last day of the old 2016 energy (and of the energy of the entire era that started before the birth of Christ and has been staggering to its eventual end from 2012).

Today is a fabulous day for giving something up.

Something that no longer serves you.

Something that holds you back.

It might be a habit, a behaviour, an attitude, a limiting belief, a relationship, a food group. 🙂 But whatever it is, you already know that you’d be a lot better without this thing in your life.

There is enormous support and energy available to you today as you decide to give something up so that you don’t carry that stinking old pattern into the bright clean new year.

You might need to give it up for ever, or simply for a while. You might need to just change your relationship with this thing.

So, what will you give up today?

It’s time.

Sending masses of love and support your way,

Nicole ❤ xoxo

It’s Here! Year of ME Planner 2017 and Other Good Stuff!

2017_year-of-me_cover-002

“I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.” ~  E. B. White

“Dear E.B. White, if you had my Year of ME Planner you could do both!” ~ Nicole Cody

There is one thing in my life that has made all the difference in what I get done, and how. That’s my Year of ME Planner! (Go here to buy one now!)

Do you have a strong desire to live a life that works better, flows better, feels better?

The Year of ME Planner allows you to create your own map – to a life that is intuitive, intentional and purposeful. ME stands for Manifesting Energies, but it also stands for you. This is about YOU mindfully creating a life more aligned with your dreams.

A few years ago a friend asked me:

“I have a request for a blog post. I constantly marvel at your ability to manage your time well, even when dealing with Lyme’s. You plan your time at the beginning of the year, you have clear containers and plans for your days, and yet somehow you still manage to find the time to go to cafes and spend time with sick friends. AND you can change plans mid-stream. Meanwhile, I feel like I struggle to do everything I want to do . . . I flip-flop between being disciplined about it, and then totally wasting time because I “owe” it to myself to take a rest.”

This Planner is how I live that life. I’ve developed a system that allows me to combine intuition, spiritual guidance (from oracle cards and journaling), forward planning, self-care, gratitude and management tools all in one place. It’s a system that has allowed me to create a rich and satisfying life and build a successful six-figure business part-time and mostly in my pyjamas, while I’ve battled all manner of health issues.

I have created room for yearly planning, monthly planning and daily actions. There are guided activities for you to review 2016 and plan out 2017 easily and clearly. There is space for self-care, oracle cards, journaling and a little magic.

Whether you want to launch a business, get in shape, write a book, plan the most exciting holiday or wedding, build a garden or just have more time for the things that really matter I’m here to guide you, step by step, to manifesting that life. I want you to use this Planner so that you can look 2017 in the eye and say with confidence ‘2017? This is going to be the year of ME!’

I truly love my Year of ME Planner, and so do many others. We now have a thriving and supportive community of YOM people! I’m so excited about this tool that I could just about bust. It helps you to practice extreme self-care, personal and life management, and will guide you to put plans on the page that are actionable and realistic, with just the right amount of daring. More importantly, it is a system that is flexible enough to allow you to roll with life’s many unexpected turns.

If you head over to my shop you can buy yours now!

Here's my own 2017 Planner, and my 2017 gratitude stone, my 2017 crystal pack, and the oracle cards I'm going to use for the year ahead. Pretty delicious, huh?

Medicine For The Soul

polychrome jasper meaning

Polychrome Jasper Heart in earth, sea and sky colours – from my own collection!

“Put ‘im in your bag. Dis lil stone, dis leaf, dis feather. Dem all medicines for you. Your special tings dat make your heart glad. Make your soul remember. Dat good for you. Proper medicine.”

~ Aunty

This morning, very early, I woke with a heavy heart. I felt the weight upon it of world events. Of a friend I know who is about to be given devastating health news. Of another friend who is finally reaping the legacy of a genetic illness which is ramping up to destroy life as he has known it.

Those feelings were so big that I could hardly get out of bed. But I did, and I grabbed my Medicine Bag and then sat on cushions on the floor of my lounge room in the quiet pre-dawn.

I lit a candle, listening to the scratch of the matchtip on the rough box end, and then the sudden hiss and flare of the flame. I lit a stick of incense. I spread a cloth on the floor in front of me.

From my bag I took my singing bowl and placed it on the cloth. My mala beads went there too. From my bag I took a few favourite crystals. I held the stones for a moment and then placed them on the cloth. Then I took up the singing bowl and settled into meditation.

Nicole Cody Tibetan Singing Bowl

I let each wave of sound radiate love out into the world. Peace. Calm. Hope. Unity. Love. I breathed this energy in and out. I travelled it with the waves of sound and with my intent.

I sent healing to my friends and their families and carers. And to mine. I sent healing and love to each of you.

I offered up my prayers.

I meditated until a profound peace and reconnection to love was all that I could feel, then returned the bowl to the floor.

I sat a little more in this energy of peace and love, and then reached into my bag for my cards. The room was light enough to see now. I drew a card for the day (these cards are so old and worn and dear to me that I need only hazily glimpse the picture for it to be clear in my mind) and reflected on the meaning for me.

I wrote in my journal.

2015-03-18 06.38.17

I sat awhile with one of my crystals. I packed everything back into my bag, ready for tomorrow, or whenever else I may need these tools again.

And then I got up, refreshed in body and spirit, put the kettle on, and began my day.

That is what my Medicine Bag does for me. Within it is a physical space, a spiritual space, a healing space – which I can unpack and use at any time.

The ritual connects me to my Aboriginal Aunties, to my Grandmothers and to myself. It centers me in love. It reminds me to live from love, and from my heart, no matter what is happening in the wider world. It gifts me guidance and perspective. It brings me back to what matters when my mind has run away with its worries.

My Medicine Bag

On Saturday 26 November I’ll be running an afternoon workshop in Brisbane to teach you how to create your own Medicine Bag. I will give you the basic spiritual foundation practices to use this bag the way I use my own.

I will also cover the practices and tools that can help you to develop a regular spiritual practice and strengthen your intuitive and psychic ability. We will look at the fundamentals of working with crystals, connecting with your guides, simple meditation techniques, using oracle and tarot cards to give yourself an intuitive reading, and some foundation metaphysical principles for raising your vibration. These are all the things I used at the beginning of my own journey, and that have led me to where I am today.

There are just a few places left – more details here.

Online Option: If you’re not able to attend, but would like to learn how to craft and use your own Medicine Bag, please contact Dana, my wonderful PA at nicolecodyinfo@gmail.com and ask to be put on our Medicine Bag mailing list. I’m currently putting this together as an online course with an optional materials package (of the things we will be using in our physical workshop). We’ll let you know as soon as the course is available, and those of you on our list will get a special discount!

Here’s a sneak peek of some of our Medicine Bag workshop materials (if you look closely you’ll see oodles of crystals in the corner too!), as well as my friend Carly who has been looking after me as I recover from my recent surgery (And I’m doing VERY well, thank you ❤ ) and helping me with my workshop preparation.

Choosing Your Perspective

flowers from my garden

“If we are always arriving and departing, it is also
true that we are eternally anchored. One’s destination is never a place but rather a new way of looking at things.”
~ Henry Miller

I have never been much good at arranging flowers. I’ve never had the eye for it.

That is, until I found myself suddenly vision-impaired as a side-effect of some medication.

Usually my friend Christine arranges flowers from my garden for me when she comes to clean my house. It’s such a simple thing, but her arrangements always give me so much pleasure. Whenever I tried to create an arrangement of my own they never looked as pleasing as Chrissie’s.

While I have been in the city, recovering from surgery, there have been no flowers in our little farmhouse. So now I am home I decided to have another go and do it myself.

It was easier this time. Everything is blurry, so all I had to do was cut some blooms from the garden, choose a vase (an old teapot!) and then begin. I found myself arranging them by placing a few taller flowers and then filling in the holes with colour. It became all about the colour rather than the individual flowers or their shapes. It became about emotion and flow rather than about getting it right, and suddenly I had a vase full of flowers that spoke to my heart.

All I’d needed was to change how I saw things.

It’s amazing what a simple change of perspective can do for you.

roses and gardenias

These flowers on my kitchen windowsill are in honour of my friend, Kate, who passed away 6 years ago. Every year on October 26 I pick the first gardenias for her. This year for the first time there was a red rose too. I felt that shift from grief to acceptance. I still miss her madly but I walk this world with the ghosts of so many departed loved ones at my side now that it has become oddly comforting.

I still can’t see very well (I have about 20% vision in one eye and 50% vision in the other) but I am back doing most of the things I always do – with some necessary modifications. I’ve also had some bonuses. As I watched a wedgetail eagle soar above our farm yesterday I realised that the giant bird left a momentary energy trail in the sky, which I could see as a river of colour behind it, mapping its flight path through the sky. It was breathtakingly beautiful.

This doesn’t mean that suddenly I am okay with vision loss. It’s been incredibly hard. At least once a day I teeter at the edge of a dark deep hole. It’s only recently I haven’t fallen in several times a day. Still not a day goes by that I don’t shed a quiet tear or become momentarily swamped by misery. Truth is, I would much rather have my sight.

But crying and feeling bad doesn’t help. It doesn’t solve anything. And after a while it just gets boring. It is what it is, and adapting works better for me than stubbornly resisting what is and being only okay if it all changes back to how it was before.

I do my best to focus on what I can do. I look at how I can adapt and keep moving forward. I search out alternatives and new solutions. I change my paradigm. Looking from a different perspective always helps. It’s one of my best coping skills.

How about you?

Where in your life right now would you benefit from a perspective shift?

Lots of people have been telling me how panicked they are, or how regretful, that this year is almost over and they never got done what they’d hoped to. You can keep looking at life from that perspective, but it essentially means that you give up on your cherished dreams and outcomes. It’s almost over – I’ll stop trying. It’s almost over – there’s no point in even starting.

What if you change that perspective? There are two months left until year’s end. That is time enough to create change and to forge a different result for yourself.

If you’d like to join us for a month of dedicated perspective-shifting and outcome creation, sign up for #GeShiDoMo – our November-long program for creating and completing goals – and finish 2016 strong. I’ve designed this program so that if you are really stuck you can ease back into momentum again. There are choices that allow for all kinds of goal-setting and achievement, and a special category for those of you who actually need to have less DOING and more BEING in order to find a path back to self-care and life balance.

There is always time to change our perspective and try life from a new angle. I know you’ll be glad that you did!

Sending much love to you, Nicole ❤ xx
