How to nurture your Spiritual Connection

“Follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be.”  ~ Joseph Cambell

Have you seen the bumper sticker that says ‘We are all Spiritual Beings having a Human Experience’? If you’re reading this, chances are that you are awakening to your own Spiritual Self. I remember when I first began to be aware of my own Spirituality. It was an exciting and difficult time in my life. It was also confusing, because I had little direction and did not know where to begin.

We are spiritual BEings, and when we begin to understand this and to discover and honour this connection to Soul and to Source, miracles begin to happen. There are many ways to nurture our Soul and to develop our Spiritual and Psychic gifts.

We don’t become Spiritual, because we already are. Acknowledging our spiritual aspect is actually just a step towards balance and wholeness in our lives. But how do we do this?

If you want to get fit and healthy, you change your lifestyle and start to exercise. As your body becomes accustomed to these changes it responds by being able to do more, by replacing fat with muscle and by energising you. There’s not much difference with developing spiritual “fitness”. It involves lifestyle choices and committing to exercises that help you to find and strengthen your spiritual and psychic self. Here are some to get you started:

  1. Wake up happy.  If you are not happy keep working on feeling good.  Don’t get out of bed until you are in a better head-space!!!  Stretch in bed, feel good, and surround yourself with white light, drawing it deep into your body. Then seal your aura with a layer of colour, like putting a shell around an egg. Choose the colour you are most drawn to, and know that this will have a benefit for you.
  2. Meditate – meditation is the act of mindful awareness, and it can take many forms.  Here is a simple meditation to try: https://youtu.be/F6eFFCi12v8
  3. Time in nature – Stand with your bare feet on the ground, and feel the energy of the Earth anchoring and grounding your body. Feel the sun, sky or moon and stars above you, radiating cosmic energy that enters from the top of your head.  Sit leaning against a tree and feel its wise energy nurture you. Watch birds or animals and seek wisdom and messages from them.
  4. Journal – Daily writing helps to create a space for self-knowledge, healing and contemplation. More tips on that here.
  5. Daily card or rune – Choose some runes or a deck of spiritual or inspirational oracle or tarot cards. Each day close your eyes, offer up a prayer for guidance and then choose one card and let its wisdom enrich your understanding by giving you new perspectives.
  6. Eat to lift your vibration – The fresher the food, the higher its vibration.  Favour organic, seasonal, minimally processed and cruelty-free.  Drink lots of water too!
  7. Get plenty of rest – When we are rested we are calmer and more able to hear our inner wisdom.
  8. Say no to drugs, and limit consumption of alcohol, caffeine, sugar and any form of chemical additive.Things that alter your consciousness or hype you up also disconnect you from clarity, reality, soul wisdom and Spirit.
  9.  Be discerning about your choice of sexual partners. Sexual intimacy opens up the energy fields of the parties involved, and there is great transference of energy between you. People who lead a lifestyle of lack of regard for their physical and emotional well-being, who take drugs, consume lots of alcohol, and indulge in promiscuity, negative and violent thinking will have unbalanced energy, or worse. When you have sex you open yourself up to all of this. Is this what you want to knowingly expose yourself, your home and loved ones to?
  10. Call on God, your Ancestors, Angels and Guides. None of us is ever alone. There is love and wisdom all around us, and all we ever have to do is ask, and then stay open to that guidance.
  11. Trust your intuition – it’s like a muscle, the more you use it the stronger it gets!
  12. Live in the moment – Here is where your power is. Not in the past. Not in the future. Be present in the here and now.
  13. Be brave – love deeply.
  14. Ask for teachers to come into your life – this might be in the form of books, friends, workshops, mentors.  Go with what you are drawn to and discard the rest.
  15. Love and accept yourself as you are NOW!

Sending you much love for your journey. Know that you’re in my thoughts, prayers and meditations, Nicole  xx

Understanding Intuition and Gut Instinct

“Follow your instincts. That’s where true wisdom manifests itself.”  ~ Oprah Winfrey

There is an unseen force that lives within each of us, and that connects us all.  We are energetic by nature, and that energy can guide us if only we can tune in to it.  One of the simplest ways to do this is by learning to honour our intuition.

There are many ways to do this, but today I’m going to focus on one: gut feeling.  Gut instinct or feeling is a primal response hard-wired into every human.

Gut feeling really does come from that area of your body – your abdomen.  It’s not a mind-based wisdom.  It doesn’t come from your heart.  It comes from that primal genetic material that is encoded and passed from parent to offspring.  In humans that is your original eight cells, which are located near your solar plexus. It is also the wisdom of the many bacteria and other organisms that live within the gut itself. We are not just our own consciousness. We are a whole co-creative biosystem that has evolved with an instinct to keep ourselves safe and to guard against threat.

So how do we tune in to this?  It’s easier than you think. Gut instinct does not use words or images.  Gut instinct uses emotions, and rockets along our central nervous system, which can also produce physical reactions.  It operates in 3 modes – neutral, forward and reverse. Some people call this the ‘sixth sense’. Some call it ‘intuition’.  Whatever the name, I’m sure you’ve all felt it and are familiar with it, whether you honour it or not.

In ‘forward’, we literally feel that we want to move closer to something.  We feel good about it.  We feel excited, happy and positive.  We can’t explain why, we can’t find the words for it, but we KNOW that something will work, that the person is good or honest, that this situation will be for the best, that this job/car/person/product/idea/food is the right choice.

In ‘neutral’ we feel indifference. There is no strong emotion or physical reaction either way.

In ‘reverse’ our gut is telling us to back away.  We feel unsure or uncomfortable.  The warning bells go off.  If it’s a mild response, this is where our brain often kicks in and invalidates our emotion (that can happen in ‘forward’ situations too!) by persuading our logical mind with rational thoughts and justifications.  In a strong response we may feel anxious or ill, we want to move back from this job/person/situation, we want to get to safety or a neutral space.  We can’t say why but we KNOW this won’t work well, this person can’t be trusted, something is wrong, it’s going to end badly…

This basic instinct is like a muscle – the more we use it, the stronger it becomes.  If we learn to trust it with the smaller things, eventually we’ll be able to hear and honour it with the bigger things.  This can be especially hard for people who are governed by their mind, which is why I recommend starting with small things that have no big ramifications in your life.

Here are some examples you may be familiar with:

  • Driving to work you suddenly feel like taking an alternative route.  You ignore that instinct and a minute past the turn-off you get stuck in a gridlock that makes you late. If you’d gone the other way you would have missed the traffic snarl.
  • In the supermarket you are drawn to a special: roasted chicken and a vast tub of coleslaw.  You really want to buy it, but that’s crazy.  There’s only you and that’s so much food.  You don’t buy it, and when you get home your sister and her family have arrived and that chicken and coleslaw would have been perfect…
  • You meet a guy, and your immediate reaction is one of dislike and distrust.  Everyone tells you how great he is, so you brush that initial feeling away.  Down the track your instinct is proved right when he turns out to be not-so-nice or trustworthy after all.  You kick yourself because you KNEW it all along!
If you’re a Star Wars fan you’ll know that Master Yoda, the great Jedi has much to say about the Force.  Here’s some of what he told Luke Skywalker…

“My ally is the Force. And a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us… and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this… [nudging Luke’s arm] crude matter! You must feel the Force around you. Here, between you, me, the tree, the rock… everywhere! Even between the land and the ship.”

If Luke learns to master the Force, as other Jedi have done, the Force can provide access to even higher levels of awareness and intuition.  Yoda explains, “Through the Force, things you will see. Other places. The future…the past…old friends long gone.”

Animals don’t question that Force.  And because of that they are guided in incredible ways.  They trust their instincts. This youtube clip illustrates that energy and trust.  It’s magical…

Postscript: I’m a channel, and often that connection informs my writing. It means I sometimes write about things I don’t consciously understand or remember, which I then go and google (welcome to my life!) to find out their meaning.  That’s how I found out about the eight cells.

Let’s Talk About What Forgiveness Really Means

Image from ba-baamail.com

“There is great change to be experienced once you learn the power of letting go. Stop allowing anyone or anything to control, limit, repress, or discourage you from being your true self! Today is YOURS to shape – own it – break free from people and things that poison or dilute your spirit.”
Steve Maraboli

The energies of this week support forgiveness, and that was what I blogged about yesterday. After which was I inundated with people messaging me to tell me they could NEVER forgive…

So today’s post is about defining forgiveness, so that perhaps you might reconsider that position.

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines forgiveness below:

Definition of forgive

forgave play \fər-ˈgāv, fȯr-\; forgiven play \fər-ˈgi-vən, fȯr-\; forgiving

1: to cease to feel resentment against (an offender) : pardon

  • forgive one’s enemies
2a : to give up resentment of or claim to requital (see requital 1) for

  • forgive an insult
b : to grant relief from payment of

  • forgive a debt

In the middle of a discussion on my facebook page my wise friend Amy Williams wrote

‘I looked up the definition of forgiveness a few months ago because I couldn’t get my head around it. Hearing “can you forgive me?” always made it seem to me that forgiveness was letting the other person off the emotional hook and I was amazed to read that it’s defined as being the act of not feeling bad feelings in yourself any more. It’s for you, not them.’

Forgiving doesn’t mean you approve of or condone a behaviour. Forgive doesn’t mean forget. Forgive means you take the sting out of it. You can’t change it so you stop putting energy into it. For your sake!

You let go of anger and pain and resentment and disappointment. It means that you will no longer give effort to events or people around the areas where you are now hurting. Forgiveness helps you move to a neutral place emotionally and from there you can heal and move forward. It’s not about other people, it’s about you being able to close that door and move on. And yes, sometimes that means forgiving yourself too.

If thinking about a person, situation or event still brings up rage, resentment, anger, pain, hurt, humiliation, worthlessness or any of those other lower vibration emotions, or if you still get triggered unexpectedy into those emotions it might be worth a rethink on your position on forgiveness just so you can set yourself free.

Think of it like cutting energetic cords with the past. You don’t deny or condone the events, but you disconnect yourself from that endless feedback loop of pain. The events of the past lose their power over you. Which gifts you emotional release and a new sense of freedom.

Need a Ritual to Invoke Forgiveness?

Sometimes we benefit from ritual to make the act of forgiveness more meaningful to us. Try this and see if it helps you.

  1. Gather together a candle and matches, a ceramic, metal or glass bowl, a photo or symbolic image of the person or event you wish to forgive, or the name of the event or situation written on a piece of paper.
  2. Light the candle, and stand before it for a moment with your hands in prayer pose, which activates your heart chakra.
  3. Say a small prayer or words of intention that everything you do be for the highest good of all.
  4. Take some deep, slow calming breaths.
  5. Hold the image of the person/event/named-piece-of-paper in your hands.
  6. Hold it out in front of you, muster your sincerity and say “I release you now. This no longer has energetic claim upon me. I release you with Love and Light. I forgive you. I wish you and all things well. And it is done.”
  7. Burn the paper in your fireproof bowl. As this is done visualise or imagine many tiny silver cords easily releasing from your body. Feel yourself come back into a place where the energy is yours alone.
  8. Breathe in white light until your entire body is filled with white light. Then finish by saying “I reclaim my sovereign power. It is so.”
  9. When you are ready, extinguish the candle. Feel that final link disconnect as you put out that flame. Feel the finality of your ritual.
  10. Gift yourself some quiet time for re-integration.

I hope that helps.

Thinking of you and sending much love, Nicole  xx

Managing your vibration – simple techniques for increasing intuition and awareness

“If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.”
~ Nikola Tesla

Our thoughts and emotions have a strong impact on our vibrationary level. Know what I mean by that?  Try this. Think of a time when someone or something really upset you.  Go back to that time and relive it in your mind.  Feel your body become tense and your heart rate increase.  Feel the anger or sadness or whatever other predominant emotion you may recall begin to flood your consciousness.

By invoking these thoughts and emotions you have consciously lowered your rate of vibration.  Negative self-talk will have the same effect.  Telling yourself that you are dumb, fat or not good enough rockets you into a lower vibration.  So does listening to people who talk down to you or show you a lack of love and respect.  Environments can have the same effect.  Is there anywhere or anyone that makes you feel uncomfortable?  Pay attention to how this affects your life, your thoughts and your actions.

Close your eyes and think of a time when you have felt positive, successful, happy or victorious.  Feel the love of someone close, or of an adored pet.  Imagine a beautiful place or natural environment.  Notice how you begin to feel expansive, calm, happy, joyful and powerful.  This is you moving to a higher vibration.

You have done all of this just with the power of your mind!

Now that you understand how this works, you can begin to consciously work with this power to lift your vibration and help you feel good about yourself.  As our vibration raises we become more spiritually and psychically aware, and can more easily access our intuition and psychic gifts. It also enhances our body’s ability to heal.

Vibrationary triggers

Make a note in your journal of things you can use to help raise your conscious vibration.  Experiment with clothes, colours and food – see how these affect your mood and self-image.  What makes you smile?  Fresh flowers, a happy baby, a hug, a note from a friend, or maybe your favourite music?  Place things in your environment that are positive emotional triggers, and that hold happy memories or thoughts.  Practice telling yourself how much you love YOU (this can be a hard one – but keep trying!) and remind yourself of your good qualities and talents, no matter how small.  Remove items that have negative associations.  Whenever you find yourself feeling anxious or upset or angry STOP!  Breathe….  Centre yourself (see info below).  Remind yourself of the blessings in your life.  Tell yourself that you are powerful and that you choose how you live in this moment.  Breathe in LOVE and breathe out negativity.  It works!

Centering

Find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed for at least ten minutes.  Sit or lie quietly and focus on your breathing.  Take slow, deep breaths.  Gradually you will feel yourself calming and becoming more relaxed.  You will have an awareness of your body and mind.  This is a meditation technique called ‘centering’.  Centering is all about bringing our conscious awareness back to a place of calm.  Feel your energy within your body.  You may want to visualise it as a white or golden ball of Light within your abdomen or around your heart.

Notice any tensions and consciously let go of them, encouraging deeper and deeper relaxation.  Know that any time, and at any place, you can bring your energy back to a place of centeredness just by taking a few conscious deep slow breaths and imagining that ball of Light within you.  When you are centred you call back all of your scattered energy, and it helps you to remain calm and to be in your Power.  Being centred encourages good decisions and fosters intuition and integrity.

We can’t control the world around us, but we can make conscious choices about what we choose to focus on, and what thoughts we fill our minds with.  It is worth the effort to manage our vibration – feeling good always leads to improvements and new opportunities in the world around us.

Sending you all good thoughts and intentions for you to move to a place of better flow and awareness. Nicole  xx

10 Ways To Be Kind to Yourself

There are days I drop words of comfort on myself like falling leaves and remember that it is enough to be taken care of by myself.  ~ Brian Andreas

Mostly when we think of kindness, we think of how we can act towards others. But today I want to focus on another equally important type of kindness – that which we extend to ourselves.

Too often we forget ourselves in the hurry and bustle of the year, and many sensitive souls get so busy looking after others that they forget to look after themselves at all.

Why not let 2018 be your year of aware self-care?

Here are ten simple acts of kindness you can give as gifts to yourself:

1.  Eat well – a simple, nourishing home-cooked meal eaten slowly and with appreciation – to replenish your body and comfort your soul. If there’s no time for cooking, have some healthy take-out options already thought through so that you don’t succumb to junk. (Pictured below is my Easy Kale and Orange Salad with Miso Dressing)

2.  Say no when you’re too tired.  No-one can run on adrenalin forever.  Honour your feelings and your own needs. Listen to your heart. Let yourself rest.  Replenish those batteries.  * Good advice here:  Are you too nice?

3. Indulge in some self-maintenance.  Get your hair cut, have a massage, update your wardrobe or make that appointment with the doctor or dentist. For more info try 8 Ingredients for Better Health

4. Move your body! We were designed to move, and exercise is good for the body, mind and spirit. Choose an activity or sport that you enjoy, or simply go for a walk.

5.  Read a book.  Self-help, romance, educational, escapism, fantasy or non-fiction.  Reading is a wonderful way to take some time for yourself, to relax or to give yourself a mental stretching session.

6.  Make time for the things that you enjoy.  Indulge your hobbies, and connect with like-minded people who share your interests.

7.  Spend some real time with people (and creatures) you love!  Friends, family, pets – everyone who loves us and who makes us feel good about ourselves.  Social isolation is an insidious thing – facebook and texting can’t make up for that special energy of meeting up face to face for love, hugs, and laughs.

8.  Spend a little time dreaming…  Dreams aren’t just for kids.  Everybody needs a dream.  Try this great journalling activity: Writing Yourself into a Brighter Future

9.  Hang out in nature.  Spend the day or a week! Feel the sun at your back, the wind in your hair, the rain on your skin. Let nature fill you up and get you grounded again. Read more here: The Healing Power of Nature

10.  Ask for help.  Sometimes we just can’t do it on our own.  And sometimes we just don’t know what to do or where to start. On the days when we’re wrung out and hanging on by our fingernails, there will be someone out there who cares and is in a place where they can extend that guidance and support to you.  Asking for help is one of the greatest acts of kindness we can give ourselves. There’s more on this here: Sometimes your only job is to ask for help

You are worthy, beautiful, and you deserve love and kindness. Most of all, you need it from yourself.  The way we treat ourselves sets the tone in the wider Universe for how we expect to be treated. And our expectations have a way of manifesting…  Choose kindness!

Bless.

Much love, Nicole ♥ xx

“On the fifth day, which was a Sunday, it rained very hard. I like it when it rains hard. It sounds like white noise everywhere, which is like silence but not empty.”
~ Mark HaddonThe Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

It’s windy and raining here at retreat. During the night we had wild weather and this morning the air is charged and vibrant. There is a tang of salt on the breeze, and below us at the shore we can see the waves whipped up into a white-capped frenzy.

Every leaf is dripping water. There is a carpet of fresh leaves and bark on the ground. There’s still a hard coastal breeze this morning and an occasional gust of rain.

It’s the perfect kind of weather for meditating, journalling, doing inner work. It’s perfect for sitting in small circles with friends, drinking mugs of tea all cosy while the trees dance and bend in the breeze outside.

These kinds of days support us to feel into the spaces deep within us. And as nature goes from a backdrop to a force demanding attention we are reminded viscerally of the world we walk.

We made a large crystal grid here in the hall yesterday. You’re represented in it, and you’re in my thoughts, meditations and prayers.

I hope you find some time for a little reconnection to your inner landscape and to the world outside your door today.

Sending so much love your way, Nicole  xx

Why You Need To Be On My March Retreat!

“Your soul knows the geography of your destiny. Your soul alone has the map of your future, therefore you can trust this indirect, oblique side of yourself. If you do, it will take you where you need to go, but more important it will teach you a kindness of rhythm in your journey.”
John O’Donohue

Have you always wanted to attend one of my residential retreats? This year we are offering only two, and next year we will be running just one – a Soul Sanctuary at the end of 2019 – because we will be conducting a spiritual pilgrimage in place of our regular program.

In March this year, not so far away, we are holding a wonderful retreat in Byron Bay, Australia. This retreat, Awakening to Spirituality, is a retreat designed to help you connect deeply into your own soul energy, to develop a spiritual practice that can guide and restore you, and to know yourself better through meditation, journalling and various metaphysical practices. And it is much more than just a retreat. The pre and post-course support gives you six weeks of mentoring, connection and learning.

We have two just places left. Will one of them be yours?

Awakening to Spirituality is completely suited to beginners, to those of you who have had absolutely no experience at all but who have a yearning to explore your spiritual and psychic side.

But don’t let that deter you if you are further along the spiritual path.

This is also a retreat for you if you want to take your own spiritual practice deeper. If you are wanting to expand your skills, strengthen your existing psychic and intuitive abilities, and stabilise them so that they become a normal and natural part of your everyday life. If you are waiting for your breakthrough to the next level of your ability this retreat is for you. If you don’t have a regular spiritual practice but wish that you did, this retreat will help you to create space in your life for being in that soul space easily and more often.

If you are hoping to attend my August Retreat – Advanced Channelling and Energy Techniques using Sacred Geometry – and you haven’t done any work with me before then this is also an important foundation course to get you ready for that event. (And if you are ready for this please contact Dana now to put your name on the waitlist for information as the course is already nearly full and we may not end up making a public offering on this one!)

Our March retreat will tune you up to the energies of this new energetic era and actively accelerate your personal and spiritual development. During our time together I will be immersing you in a spiritual and energetic world where you will connect with your own gifts, and be given exercises and activities for your personal level of ability, and which are tailored to your specific energetic skillset. There will be time on this retreat for you to seek clarification and guidance with me too, about your spiritual practice, your next steps in life, and your path of service to others.

My retreats are much more than just a learning environment.  They are a safe place for your Soul to evolve.  They are a coming together of like-minded people for sharing and connection, and they are a journey that will accelerate your understanding of and love for yourself and your place in the world.

What Previous Participants Have Said:

‘Words can not express how amazing Nicole Cody retreats are. They really do have to be experienced. This changed my life and I really appreciate the time and effort that Nicole and Dana PA put in. So much wisdom and love surrounds Nicole – I took advantage of the payment plan – so I would highly recommend going along. I made so many lovely friends and had many breakthroughs.’ – Amanda C.

If anybody is on the fence and wondering if they can actually invest money 💰 in themselves to do this retreat 🌈 I have to tell you what ever it takes if this retreat is calling you do the things you need to to make it happen 🌸 I have attended 3 of Nicole’s courses since I discovered her blog 💫And yes life changing 🦋
I have also met so many wonderful people and you will hear the phrase “finding my tribe” thrown around a lot 🌿
You will never regret going to Beautiful Byron for a life challenging and changing experience 🌷 – Beka L

I’ll second those sentiments too. I went on a retreat 2 years ago and was so anxious but once I got there and met everyone, I was made to feel really welcome and cherished. Nothing was too much trouble and when I was ” stuck” there was plenty of support from some wonderful people. (Plus the food was awesome) – Mary P

And from my wonderful PA, Dana:

If you have ever wanted to attend a retreat with Nicole but felt you weren’t experienced enough, or that the retreat sounded a bit scary (because channelling and other things we do aren’t for everyone!), then our March “Spiritual Awakening” retreat is perfect for you! It is a very gentle beginners retreat. I cannot put into words how well Nicole, her guides, the food and the environment will nurture and support you.
I also wanted to remind you that we can work out a payment plan for you based on what works for you. Unfortunately our suppliers are putting up their prices, so this is the last time we’ll be able to offer this retreat at this price. Please don’t let money be the reason why you don’t join us. Places are starting to fill, so get in touch before we sell out!
Love and hugs to you all, Dana

“Life’s journey doesn’t start on the highest mountain peak where a clear view of the trail ahead, obstacles and all, is laid out for us to observe before setting foot on the path. No. Life’s journey begins on a low road, in a valley, or even down inside a pit where the trail beyond can only be seen in short stretches, and any obstacles are met as they come. This makes life trying, even scary at times. Have faith that God gave you this life, and hence it is worth seeing through to the end of the trail.”
Richelle E. GoodrichSlaying Dragons

Hello, lovely friends,

I’ve been thinking very deeply about the private responses you’ve sent me in the past few days. Messages about your secret shames and fears, your despair about not being able to overcome a health issue, or your limitations due to illness or living with a partner or child with an illness, or some other deep-seated issue or problem that has left you feeling unable to be all you hoped you could be.

There was a theme amidst your messages that deeply resonated with me, because it was my own theme for so very long: I am not worthy – I am not worthy and even worse I cannot follow my path…

I am not worthy because I am ill or disabled or afflicted or depressed or anxious or traumatised or unable to get out from under whatever is weighing me down. I can’t share my problems because they make me feel like a failure. They are shameful. I am shameful. I cannot follow my path because I am ill or afflicted or exhausted or broken or unable to do it the way that I wanted to. I have my life on hold and I am waiting for this thing to be fixed, even though I’ve been trying to fix it myself for so long. Or I’m broken from trying and I am ashamed that I have now given up. I am waiting to walk my path. I am waiting to be ready for my spiritual journey. I am waiting to find my gifts or share them.

Dear ones, if that in any way resonates, my words today are for you.

The soul journey happens despite what is going on in our lives. In fact, it’s often because life becomes difficult that a yearning awakens for a more spiritual path. It doesn’t matter  if you’re a little broken or a lot, if your time here on earth is short, or longer and not of the quality you had hoped. Let go of the idea that this is somehow all your fault, and that you must be fixed before you can journey.

This is the journey.

I’m reaching out to you today because I need you to hear this.

You can live broken. It can still be a good life. It can still fill you up and be beautiful despite illness, pain, despair and limitation. You can create and dream and make and connect and love and laugh and adventure and matter – to yourself and to others – even if your life is not perfect, or working out the way you had planned. I know, because I have lived with pain and brokenness and despair and frustration and so many other things. And I still do.

We are souls dressed up in Earthsuits. (Yep, I’m talking about your body here!) Sometimes those suits get awfully dinged up and damaged. Life is a risky business.

But inside that suit is your soul. And souls endure, remaining shiny and unaffected by the dust and damage that your Earthsuit might have accumulated.

In fact, I think that our souls deepen and shine brighter because of the hardships our Earthsuits go through.

Please, stop beating yourself up. Stop blaming. Stop the meanness and the endless stress and self-recrimination. Stop waiting for things to change. Stop needing things to be better. Surrender to where you are. Surrender to what is. This is your one beautiful chance at this life, and it goes by in the blink of an eye. Your Earthsuit might be damaged but you are still here, and life outside your Earthsuit still holds wonder and beauty and magic if only you can allow yourself to keep feeling and experiencing and allowing, in spite of whatever else is going on for you.

You can be a healer and still be broken yourself. You can be a teacher, and never leave your home. You can be an artist or a writer or an entrepreneur and never leave your bed. You don’t need to be perfect or beautiful or young or fit or healthy or able-bodied. You can limp through life and still live it well. If you are alive, even if only just, you can think and feel and dream and you can do soulwork. You can lift yourself out of pain and isolation and back into connection, just be deciding that you’ll live anyway, despite whatever circumstances you find yourself experiencing.

You are worthy just as you are. And there is a path for you in this life that only you can take. No matter how messed up or impossible things might seem to be for you right now. Just by being alive you matter.

Soul work – that space of meditation and reflection, of connection and communion, or asking the big questions and being okay with silence or answers unexpected, that great big process of opening up to yourself and the Universe? You, my friend, are born to it. In fact, because of all this shit you have endured or are enduring, you are primed for something deeper and more meaningful in the way that your soul will journey.

So, let me give you a hug. Your journey is my journey. I’m here for you. You matter to me, and your life matters.

That world of perfect bodies and healthy happy people doing amazing things and living a life you can never have? It doesn’t even exist. It’s all just marketing. Everyone in their lifetime will experience troubles, pain, hurt, frailty and diminishment. Everyone. Most people just don’t talk about it. It’s not very Facebook or Instagram worthy.

Take a deep breath. You are where you are. And it might totally suck. But somewhere inside you is a place untouched by that pain, and perhaps made more beautiful and wise because of it. You’re a soul, and you have every right to be here, and to follow your heart. It’s why you came to Earth, despite all the risks and dangers. Be yourself anyway. Live, anyway. Do, anyway. Be, anyway. Feel, anyway. It’s worth it. All it takes is a little shift in your thinking and your life can open up again.

I love you. I’m here for you. I’m cheering you on. Nicole  xx

Chronic Illness? This is a Spiritual Retreat for you!

“The lotus is the most beautiful flower, whose petals open one by one. But it will only grow in the mud. In order to grow and gain wisdom, first you must have the mud — the obstacles of life and its suffering. … The mud speaks of the common ground that humans share, no matter what our stations in life. … Whether we have it all or we have nothing, we are all faced with the same obstacles: sadness, loss, illness, dying and death. If we are to strive as human beings to gain more wisdom, more kindness and more compassion, we must have the intention to grow as a lotus and open each petal one by one. ”
Goldie Hawn

I have a beautiful residential retreat coming up, from March 6 to 11 in Byron Bay, Australia. It’s a gentle retreat, a restorative retreat, whose focus is to help you develop and commit to a regular spiritual practice that nourishes, sustains and grows you.

When I think about this retreat, and the practices I will teach you, my heart swells with love and gratitude. These are the techniques I used on my own soul journey, as I moved from resistance into connection, from self-loathing to self-love, from fear into deep peace. These techniques are ones I still use daily, or often. They are what helped me to become more fully who I truly am, rather than who I thought people wanted me to be, or how I thought I ‘should’ be. Quite frankly, these practices have become the foundation of my spiritual and psychic life, and the reason I have been able to cope with suffering, pain and trauma. They are also the practices that have enhanced my gratitude, compassion and inner wisdom.

As many of you will know, I have suffered from serious illness and the limitations that creates for most of my adult life. In fact it was this chronic illness that first created the space for me to explore my own spirituality, intuitive and psychic abilities so much more deeply.

All of the techniques I will teach on this retreat, and the journey I shall guide you through, came to me when I was at my most unwell. Suffering and illness is often the doorway for profound spiritual awakening. I’m sure there are many of you who will resonate with that as the truth of your own journey too.

I’ve had inquiries from people with chronic fatigue and other debilitating illness, wanting to come to our next retreat but worrying if they are suitable or if they will cope. If that’s you let me reassure you… you’ll find a place to fit in and belong here in my Tribe.

Our Awakening to Spirituality Retreat is gentle. You’ll be supported to find your own rhythm for connection and inner journeying. There will be enough time to get from your room to the Hall and to the Dining Room. There is plenty of rest time and quiet time scheduled each day. Our days will be filled with meditation, reflection and simple spiritual practices, creative activities, good company, laughter, love and transformation. There will be friends to lean on, and we can find accommodation for you that is quiet and allows you additional solitude, or find a suitable roomie to give you company if that’s what you’re yearning for.

Our catering is geared for people with food intolerances, allergies and issues. Honestly, it won’t be a drama – we can work it all out. And you won’t be a burden to us, because this is how I’ve lived my life, and how I’ve often had to run these retreats as I have faced health issues myself. I understand pain. I understand fatigue. I understand anxiety and medication routines and incontinence and mobility issues and stupid dietary requirements that usually mean I have to lug my own food everywhere. I understand no one else understanding. I understand the emotional pain and isolation that illness can bring. I also understand end of life spaces. I’ve lived all of these things. I’ve created my retreats for my own needs, which are also yours. My retreats always have able-bodied people alongside people like me who have major health issues. And the health issues in the end are never a big thing. They are just something we manage so that we can focus on the real work – soul work.

Having a health issue is not a prohibitive factor for this event. In fact, it might be the perfect time for you to join us in a safe and non-judgmental atmosphere.

Your journey is my journey. Often when we are living with long-term illness, no answers to our health problems, a chronic or a terminal condition, we think that there will no longer be a place for us in the world. There is a place for you in mine.

I can show you spiritual practices that will help you to find your centre again, manage your pain, and give your life meaning and connection. I KNOW that when you begin to incorporate this soul-journey work and spiritual space in your own life that life will regain shape and satisfaction for you, no matter what your situation, or the nature of the days ahead of you.

If you need to talk further with us, please reach out. We are here for you. Our best email is nicolecodyinfo@gmail.com and Dana, my wonderful PA, can send you information and start the ball rolling to have you join us.

Able-bodied and completely well people are, of course, always welcome and invited too! My work is for you all, on a soul level, regardless of the skin you are in.

15 Tips to Fuel Your Creativity

“Every child is an artist, the problem is staying an artist when you grow up.”
~  Pablo Picasso

2018 is a fabulous year for all forms of creativity.

Creativity. NOT productivity.

Go back and read that sentence again if you have to!

Productivity is the act of producing something. The dictionary defines productivity as ‘the effectiveness of productive effort, especially in industry, as measured in terms of the rate of output per unit of input’. Think widgets, or burning through your to-do list. It is often not a joyful task, or one that requires your best work or your best self to turn up. Yes, you can still be productive this year, but that’s not what the energies of 2018 are all about.

2018 is a fabulous year for all forms of creativity. Creativity is defined as the use of imagination or original ideas to create something. Creativity is a wild beast. It’s a tender young seedling that will grow into a blooming bush or an incredible tree. Creativity is the act of making something that is fuelled by your own life force and shaped by your imagination and heartsong.

After so many years of sitting in ‘productive’ energy, getting back to that wild space of creativity can feel uncomfortable and odd. It can make us anxious if we don’t get an instant result, a perfect first creation or a super-productive outcome. And worse, trying to be ‘productive’ with our creativity makes that flow of imagination and inventiveness slow to a trickle or stop altogether. Remember: once you have your creative outcome you can work from a place of productivity, but not before.

Here are my top ten suggestions for reconnecting to and feeding your creative energy this year:

  1. Listen to music. Range widely and try new styles and genres.
  2. Read books. Libraries and bookshops have a world of inspiration just waiting for you to explore.
  3. Watch movies. Change it up and look at things that are not your usual choices.
  4. Go for long walks in nature. Camping can also be good. Use this as unplugged time and leave your phone and laptop at home or turned off.
  5. Sit in a cafe with a hot or cold beverage. People watch, or write in your journal. Sit in a space of awareness. Use your whole self as an antenna.
  6. Move your body. Dancing is good. Or a yoga class. Surfing or playing with your dog or your kids (or borrow the dog or kids of a friend!). Movement gets you into flow!
  7. Watch a live performance. Or give one.
  8. Visit the local art gallery or museum.
  9. Take a road trip. Go around the corner or around the world. Travel has direct links to the imagination switch in your brain.
  10. Sign up to some kind of creative hands-on course. Try ceramics or drum making, decorative cookies or welding. It doesn’t need to be in the field where you want to shine. Anything that gets you making something with your hands will do. Can’t access a course? Bake something or go dig in the garden and grow things.
  11. Got a project idea? Just start. Work it out as you go. Don’t need it to be perfect or all planned out in advance.
  12. Dedicate some regular time and space for your creative projects. No, this won’t kill creativity. Turning up and creating a routine supports sustainable creative flow.
  13. Let yourself be a beginner.
  14. Try collaborating with others and sharing knowledge and skills.
  15. Enjoy regular down-time. Working and needing to be productive every waking moment leaves no space for new ideas to form or bubble to the surface. Rest and play are your friends this year!

I can’t wait to see what magic you create in 2018, or how living more creatively and playfully helps you heal and re-energise in all kinds of places in your life. Drop me a line and keep me posted!

Much love, Nicole  xx
