This Quarter I am using the Sacred Earth Oracle Deck cards by Toni Carmine Salerno and Leela J. Williams, illustrated by Helena Nelson-Reed for my weekly oracle readings.
Our card to guide us for the week ahead is CONTEXT. This magical card heralds a powerful week for mothering and healing our Inner Child.
Have you ever over-reacted to a situation where you were criticized, laughed at or dismissed? Are you experiencing unrealistic levels of stress and anxiety that seem unrelated to your current life? Do you feel completely blocked creatively or in some way that is important to you?
CONTEXT reminds you that the child within you, your Inner Child, is bringing up insecurities, fears and pain from your childhood right now, in order that the wise and mature part of you can help the child inside you to heal.
How do you do that?
For the big things, there is always therapy. Maybe it’s time for you to finally speak with someone, so that you can understand, learn from and let go of the past.
There’s a second way that we can reconnect with, support and heal our Inner Child – and that’s through play.
Oh, I know. I hear you groaning. You don’t have time for fun, or you can’t because there is nothing to do and no-one to play with, or you’re just too busy and grown-up now. Or you don’t KNOW what even is fun anymore. Which is precisely why you need some!
This week CONTEXT reminds us that our Inner Child will always be a part of us, and that play is an integral part of being human. When we play – as adults or as children (and yes, adults need play more than ever!) – it supports our emotional wellbeing. Play allows us to enter a state of relaxation, and it improves our problem-solving ability, stimulates our creativity, enhances our mental clarity and boosts our imagination. Not ever playing is REALLY HARD on your Inner Child. (Hint – that means it’s hard for you too!)
If you’re a sporty person go for a swim or a run or a climb. If it’s safe to do so, meet your friends to throw a few hoops, or get together for a casual game. Not sporty? You can still take the dog for a walk, dance in your loungeroom, take a stroll through the neighbourhood and snap some pictures, blow bubbles or play pirates in the back yard with your kids. No kids? Offer to babysit for someone you know and play with those kids. I’m sure their caregivers will appreciate the break!
Bring out your jigsaw puzzles, board games, art supplies. Get your inner-crafty-person on and make something. Colour something. Or pop into the kitchen and bake something. Go dig in the garden and grow something. Pull out your oracle or tarot cards and give yourself a reading.
Want to be creative but find yourself terrified to start? Tell yourself, ‘This won’t count, I’m just going to experiment a little and have fun with it – I can do something serious later. Right now, I just need to play.’ That way you take all the pressure and expectation off yourself, which is how your Inner Child ALWAYS created!
When we move into a state of play, our natural curiosity and inner wisdom will illuminate for us what we most need to know right now, especially in regard to our spiritual journey or our life path. And when we play, and we relax, our Inner Child feels heard, nourished and supported. The self-sabotaging behaviour, anxiety and self-doubt will begin to settle. Wisdom, creativity and inspiration will start to flow.
Mother yourself this week. Eat your vegetables. Get enough sleep. Pay your bills. Put yourself first. Take some downtime and some fun time. You’ll be so glad you did!
My Top Tip For The Week Ahead: Stop pushing yourself so hard, or being paralysed by fear, and do one fun thing. Do it just for the sake of enjoying yourself. Do it as the defiant, strong and sassy child who lives within you, and has always known what he or she wanted to do next. Be okay with feeling awkward. Be okay with it not being perfect. It’s PLAY. Play doesn’t count toward your big important life goals and expectations. But it just may be the thing that gives you back to yourself so you CAN get unstuck and start living life more fully.

This week I’m working on finishing the draft of our 2022 Journeymaker’s Planner, doing some emergency client sessions, and trying to get on top of the mountain of washing that happened while I was waiting for my washing machine and dryer to be installed in our new home. I’m also drafting our next Channelled Webinar series for the Membership Group, and getting ready for our next Book Club meeting. (Seriously, Book Club has become one of the things I love best about our membership group – it is such an intimate and safe space for sharing and connecting, and it’s a highlight for me!)
