It is the obvious which is so difficult to see most of the time.
People say ‘It’s as plain as the nose on your face.’
But how much of the nose on your face can you see, unless someone holds a mirror up to you?

Hey, Lovelies.
I finally went for my haircut.
I was all organised. Remember how I asked you all if I should chop all my hair off, or dye it pink? Well, I had made a bold decision to DO BOTH.
So, I turned up at my new hairdresser, who had already been briefed that I hadn’t had a cut for two years.
When she asked me if I had any thoughts on what I might like done I said, “Um, kind of.” Then I became more assertive. “Yes, I’m thinking an undercut, cut it short, dye it pink.”
I said it fast, just to be sure.
She looked at me for a moment, and then she undid the elastic holding up my hair and shook it down around my shoulders.
“Oh,” she said. “It’s beautiful. The colour too. The curl is gorgeous. It really suits you.”
She played with it for a minute or two.
“Gee,” she said, finally. “The ends are really damaged from what looks like old colour. And you’ve got too much bulk. Lots of knots too. It needs a good trim to get rid of the old coloured hair we can’t do anything to fix. And it needs a shape, and a deep condition. Maybe a few little foils to brighten up the colour, but not to hide the greys or to change it too much. Something that looks like your natural reddish-blonde tone. Something that is actually nourishing for your hair. Why don’t we start there?”
Hmmm. She didn’t say a thing about undercuts or short bobs or unicorn colours.
“Are you sure?” I said to her.
“Yes. Absolutely. If you don’t like your hair once we’ve tidied it up you can try something new, but I’d like to show you how it could look first.”
So, we did what she suggested.
I came home with hair that looks a lot like the hair I had before my cut, except it’s almost eight inches shorter, less bulky, it’s shaped around my face, it’s knot-free, silky soft and it feels like me, but better. My whole head feels lighter.
Oh, and the head massage? Soooooooo good. It was a great four hours. I won’t leave it so long next time.
Pink? Undercut? Maybe. One day. But for now I’m happy with the hair I was born with.
Love, hair that smells like flowers, and a very relaxed scalp, Nicole xx
