October is a month for developing clear future vision and for believing in yourself and your dreams. You’ll be able to build on what you have already decided or created for yourself this year, aided by a deep knowing and intuition. Signs and messages are all around you, so trust your intuition! Keep October’s energy in mind as we look at the gifts of inspiration which the card RIVER brings us.
The Week Ahead
This week’s energies remind me of a stormwater drain. That might not make much sense yet, so let me explain…
Much of Australia is in drought right now. In drought there is little water, and certainly no flow of water into drains, creeks and rivers. In the stormwater drains dirt piles up. Leaves and sticks and bits of rubbish too. They get swept there by the wind, or by people with leaf blowers or brooms, or perhaps the force of a garden hose pushing debris off the footpath and into the drain, out of sight.
All of that muck builds up inside the drain, so water, if it comes, will run out the other end of the drain dirty, and with a reduced flow if the drain has become really blocked.
What it needs is a great big push of water from a storm or a huge rain event to push the debris clear so that the clean clear water can flow again.
Our unfelt and unprocessed emotions act like the sticks and dirt and rubbish that blocks a stormwater drain. They slow us down, and make us feel heavy, lethargic, anxious, angry, resentful and depressed. When we are filled with unprocessed emotion we find it hard to get into creative flow, or to think clearly. It’s hard to have energy and enthusiasm. Too much of ourselves and our energy is tied up with the past.
RIVER puts us on notice that we’re due for an emotional cleansing, like a big storm that rushes through and makes everything fresh and new again. It might get a little bumpy this week. You may feel flat, cranky, lost, emotional, up and down, a little crazy. You may find yourself nursing old wounds and bruises you thought you’d dealt with long ago. Or being triggered by things that haven’t bothered you for ages. All those old emotions you pushed deep down inside to deal with ‘later’ and then never got around to? They’ll be popping to the surface this week so you can finally feel them and then let them go.
That’s actually a good thing. As we shed these old hurts and unfelt emotions our vibration lifts, and we’ll be able to see our way forward again. New energies will take the place of what was stuck within us – and hope, optimism and clarity will be renewed. But you may feel exhausted first, after all that energetic work. so rest if you must. Everything else will click back in all by itself.
Be gentle with yourself and everyone around you this week. Be patient as you work though old emotional blockages so that flow can be restored again.
It’s also a week for making emotional connections and putting heart and healing into the important relationships in your life. Some of you will also find that it’s a week for reconnecting with people, activities and places that were once significant for us, and may be significant again in the future.

Rose, Geranium, Cypress and Wild Orange will support you well in the days ahead. Rose is the supreme heart nurturer and will help you recover from trauma and upset. Geranium helps alleviate feelings of sadness and distress, and re-centers you. Cypress helps shift old emotions and reduces stress and anxiety. Wild Orange helps you move from depair back to optimism, and encourages creativity and flow. These oils can be used alone or in combination in your diffuser.
