Talking, Listening, Understanding, Growing

“Listen with curiosity. Speak with honesty. Act with integrity. The greatest problem with communication is we don’t listen to understand. We listen to reply. When we listen with curiosity, we don’t listen with the intent to reply. We listen for what’s behind the words.”

~ Roy T. Bennett

Hello, Lovelies

I’m on Retreat this week, teaching a group of heart-centred and spiritual women how to become entrepreneurs, and how to create their book, podcast, course and other offerings.

Already I’ve seen a huge transformation in the group, as each woman becomes clearer about her message, her own value as an agent of transformation, and how her story and experiences will help other people who encounter problems she has lived through and come to manage or master.

Two things really stood out for me yesterday. The first was watching women go off to work with our hair and makeup artist, Kristy, and then having a photoshoot with our photographer, April. It was so heartwarming to see the retreat students helping each other choose outfits and accessories, and then to have the gentle transformation as hair was done, and soft natural makeup applied in colours that brought out each woman’s personality and inner beauty. The happiness, confidence and sense of a personal goal achieved when that woman came back to the group after her photoshoot was uplifting and so very gratifying for me as their teacher, watching them transform before my eyes into the future version of themselves we had been visualising in our meditations.

The second thing was watching small groups of my students come together to discuss one of the classroom activities, and to share a personal project with their group. Long after the time allocated for the activity was over the groups stayed huddled in conversation, and that conversation spilled over into lunch and then into the rest of the day.

This week’s energies are all about connection, communication, sharing and listening. As we do these things we come to understand ourselves and the people around us in more depth. As we do these things we grow.

I hope you can make time for that kind of meaningful connection in your own life this week.

  1. I think that’s beautiful. I am so happy for all those on retreat, many of whom I know. It is heartening to see/hear of their growth and the burgeoning centredness of their knowledge, to make better decisions etc for their enterprises. I love the connectivity of it all. Good on them.
