Accidents and Sudden Deaths – My thoughts from a psychic perspective

“Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am that swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.
~ Autumn Rain – Mary Frye, 1932

This is the next post in my Wednesday series on death and dying.

Many people have asked me what happens to a person if they have a sudden death through accident or illness.

I’ve sat holding the hand of people who’ve been suddenly and gravely injured and who have then passed away.

I’ve also been ‘visited’ psychically by souls whose life has suddenly terminated due to trauma, or I have connected with them through my meditations.

One of the strongest psychic experiences I have ever had was of sitting in my friend’s body and being aware of his thoughts in the hours before and after his death from suicide. Although that remains the most brutal experience I have had, it was also a supreme gift.

This is what I have come to understand…

Death that is sudden is a shock for the soul. We live on, and our capacity for thought and awareness lives on. There is a period after death where the soul must orient themselves to their new circumstances.

This doesn’t always happen the same way.

Some people die in trauma and there is a short period of nothingness – as if someone wiped part of a video. In this way the soul is spared the traumatic memories. There will be no trauma to process even if the circumstances of death were difficult. Sometimes the soul abandons the mortally injured body before death takes place. There is no suffering. Life just stops. In every instance the newly liberated soul is met and guided by loved ones who help to move the soul to a place of love and comfort. Later the soul may revisit their body or the scene of their death, but by then they will have disconnected from their life to an extent that the revisiting adds no trauma, only understanding and closure for the life they have just lived.

Some people die, and don’t immediately realise that they are dead. They may look down on themselves and be completely disoriented and confused. There is no physical pain. I liken this situation to when you awaken from a dream and are not sure where you are for a moment. Then gradually understanding comes as you orient yourself to the room you are in. This may take minutes or hours. There is never a situation of being trapped in the body, or trapped on earth. Instead there is a period of readjustment before the soul accepts their death and moves to wherever it is we go after this current life journey is complete. And wherever that is, it is ALWAYS a return to love.

My friend who suicided realised too late that he had acted from emotion in making the decision to end his life, and that he didn’t want to die. He was still alive when that realisation came but it was impossible to change his outcome. In the moments before death he experienced extreme regret and sorrow, and a deep awareness of the trauma he would now inflict on his family. After death he came to a place of deep love and acceptance for himself and his life. That was his gift to me. He showed me and allowed me to feel that love. I have never experienced anything as comforting or all-encompassing as that place of unconditional love his soul moved into after death.

Souls don’t remain trapped on earth, or stuck in some strange in-between place because of trauma, sudden or violent death. We always return to love.

The true suffering is done here on earth.

The energetic imprint of trauma, violence and suffering can remain in a place, and many psychics and empaths will pick up on that. They can tune into thoughts, emotions and even images that have been imprinted. This energetic residue is NOT a trapped soul. Lightworkers can bear witness to that low vibration energy, and use love and light to dissipate it and heal a space or place if that feels right.

Do we always die because it is our time? I would love to say that I am wise enough to know the answer. All I can say here is that while many people do indeed die because whatever experience they needed here is complete, there are instances of accident and mishap that can terminate our lives before we did all we came here to do and experience. Life is fraught with risk. We are biological organisms. It’s a crazy adventure that sometimes goes wrong. I do know that, no matter what happens, we return to love when we die. And everything we experience teaches us something and helps us to grow – either in this life or in our time between lives.

It is important to remember that the ones most affected by sudden death (be it accident, suicide or medical) will be those left behind in life.

I also had a question from a reader about organ donation that fits in very well with what we’re talking about here on the blog this morning. Here it is:

“My understanding is that taking organs when the person is brain dead, or just after their heart has stopped beating means their spiritual body hasn’t completely left the physical body yet. I understand that this can cause distress in the next world and maybe even problems when reincarnating with a spiritual body that hasn’t fully healed from having parts taken or damaged. have you had any experiences of this type of thing, or is it something you could enquire into? My only personal experience is living in a building where they did experiments on human eyeballs in the basement. I’m not scared of ghosts usually, but the corridor by the basement always seemed to be teeming with unhappy souls.”

A ghost is an energetic residue. Many empaths and intuitives pick up on strong positive or negative emotional energies that have been imprinted upon objects or places. I believe that the reader who posted this question is highly empathic and intuitive, and hence their ability to tune into old energies held within the building where they lived.

When organs are taken from a donor, the person is already brain-dead or their heart has stopped beating. There will be no possibility that this person could be brought back to any form of life. Life is sometimes artificially continued for a short period of time through the use of machines that keep a supply of oxygenated blood flowing through the body. These keeps the organs viable so that the donor’s wish to gift life to others can still take place. The soul of this person will have already detached from their body when the organs are removed.

A soul is never hampered in their journey after death because of what may have happened to their physical body before or after death. A soul would not experience difficulties because part of their physical body continued to exist. That organ serves no purpose for the disembodied soul. We exist as more than just our physical bodies, and we have no need for our physical body after death. Our physical bodies may continue to do good and be of service after our death though, through acts such as organ donation.

Be kind to yourself, and those you meet. We never know what is going on within another, and this is often a hard time of year remembering those we have lost.

Much love to you, Nicole ❤ xx

Going Through Some Shi*t Right Now? (Shift, of course!)

“You can accept or reject the way you are treated by other people, but until you heal the wounds of your past, you will continue to bleed. You can bandage the bleeding with food, with alcohol, with drugs, with work, with cigarettes, with sex, but eventually, it will all ooze through and stain your life. You must find the strength to open the wounds, stick your hands inside, pull out the core of the pain that is holding you in your past, the memories, and make peace with them.”
~ Iyanla Vanzant

Hello, my lovelies.
Are you feeling it? This intense energy?
If you are, then I am glad.
Even though it is rough, and kind of hard to handle.

I’m glad because it means that you’re moving in the right direction.

You see, we’re in the middle of some pretty big shift. You’d have to be pretty stuck to not feel it. And for all of you who are empathic, sensitive or intuitive, this could be a pretty intense ride. The full moon is amplifying it. The heavens and their alignment are amplifying it. The earth in her wisdom is amplifying it – this crazy, crazy-making energy of shift.

As we move to a higher vibration so much of what we have carried within our bodies and our cellular memories, so much of what is encoded in our DNA, and in the deepest recesses of our memories, so many of our old patterns and beliefs, old injuries and illnesses that were anchored deep into our tissue, they are all letting go.

Which may mean that you feel swamped.
Or that shit keeps going down.
Know what I mean?

And it might be making you feel more than a little edgy. Or crazy. Or desperate. Like you’re back down the rabbit hole again, and you’ll never get out. Like things will never, ever be sorted. Like you thought you were done with all of this, and yet here you are again, right in the place you thought you’d left far behind.

I want to remind you that it will pass. Don’t sit in fear with it. Don’t hang onto all of this old stuff or reclaim it by saying ‘This always happens to me.’ Don’t let any of this old stuff define you.

Be brave in witnessing this passing as the old energies move out of your life. Give them up. Let them go. Don’t fight them. Don’t freak yourself out by thinking that this place you’re in right now will never end.

If you’ve ever driven down a dead-end street you’ll know that you have to pass all that same stuff you’ve already travelled by as you head back out onto the open road again.

Face it head on. Cry if you must. And then keep going. Because this is what levelling up is all about. Keep your eyes on where you want to go, rather than the road behind you. Hold onto your dreams.

You’d always intended that this would be the life where you’d clear and let go of all of this. So get to it! I have so much faith in you.

Feeling Fragile Or A Little Low Just Now?

“Sometimes we get sad about things and we don’t like to tell other people that we are sad about them. We like to keep it a secret. Or sometimes, we are sad but we really don’t know why we are sad, so we say we aren’t sad but we really are.”
~ Mark Haddon, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

“The way sadness works is one of the strange riddles of the world. If you are stricken with a great sadness, you may feel as if you have been set aflame, not only because of the enormous pain, but also because your sadness may spread over your life, like smoke from an enormous fire. You might find it difficult to see anything but your own sadness, the way smoke can cover a landscape so that all anyone can see is black. You may find that if someone pours water all over you, you are damp and distracted, but not cured of your sadness, the way a fire department can douse a fire but never recover what has been burnt down.”
~ Lemony Snicket, The Bad Beginning

Dear Friends,

I just wanted to reach out to you, in case any of you feel lost or melancholy or blue right now. If you feel you have been drained of enthusiasm or inspiration, when not long ago you were on fire with clarity and direction. If you are suddenly filled with doubt or despair. Or if you are loving or caring for someone who is in that space.

Please know that it will pass.

Please know that right now the Universe is contriving to create massive emotional and energetic shift. Much of what you are feeling is old emotion or thoughts that you pushed to the back of your mind and didn’t process or ‘feel’ at the time, and which are rippling through you now as they release and leave your vibrationary field.

Many transitory emotions will be passing through your headspace or heartspace. Old regrets or fears or shames. Things you haven’t thought about in years. Some of that may be so overwhelming to your conscious mind that you’ll feel either exhausted or numb for no apparent reason at all.

You may also feel like a bit of a train wreck and unhappy in your daily life without being able to point to specifics. You may end up fighting with loved ones over the stupidest of things, as you fall back into old patterns that don’t serve the person you’ve become.

All of this will pass. Your enthusiasm and energy will return. Clarity and direction will begin to emerge.

What’s needed right now is for you to be gentle with yourself and those around you. If you are in a negative headspace avoid making big decisions or working on projects that require attention and care. You are better off resting, or working on less important things. Wait until you are back in flow again before you tackle anything that is dear to you.

Don’t give up on your dreams, or put yourself into a position where you may self-sabotage.

You’ll feel a positive shift in the energies again by the end of this weekend. I know that for some of you this has been an intensely uncomfortable time. Take heart. Once you’ve retraced and released this old emotion you’ll be done with it. Remind yourself that you’re just going through a spring-cleaning of the soul.

I’m holding you all in my heart, and sending you extra love and support in my daily meditations.

You may also find it useful to go back and reread my post about the energies of July.

Hang in there. We’re almost out the other side.

Much love and gentle hugs, Nicole ❤ xx

The Quiet Calm of Morning Meditation

“Silence is the great teacher and to learn its lessons you must pay attention to it. There is no substitute for the creative inspiration, knowledge, and stability that come from knowing how to contact your core of inner silence.”
~  Deepak Chopra

I have a regular meditation practice that has stretched now for over thirty years. Twice a day I sit in meditation, once at day’s beginning and then again at day’s end. Sometimes I walk or perform some other kind of moving meditation, but mostly I am seated and still.

Very occasionally I will miss a session. If I am very ill I may miss one. If I have been out late and drunk alcohol I may tumble into bed without meditating. (Thanks to lyme disease the latter isn’t actually a very common occurrence – neither the late nights nor the drinking – although on my recent vacation I missed ten evening meditation sessions over six weeks. Woohoo!)

No matter where I am I find myself waking at 4am local time. I will meditate and then I will either get up and start my day, or if it is a Sunday or a holiday I will pop back into bed and go back to sleep.

At day’s end, just before I slide between the sheets, or sitting up in bed, I meditate once more to close off my day.

I meditate to enter that place of sacred stillness. I also meditate to grow, to heal, to do psychic work, to work with my hand-chosen students whom I may be teaching or training, and to work with healing others.

Sometimes, like for these next few weeks, I will work with a mala during my meditations. The main beads each represent a person, and I form a deep connection with each one. I am meditating twice daily now for a new group of students who will soon join me on retreat. To feel them energetically each day and to support them on their journey is an immense privilege.

2015-05-27 06.10.24

I can’t begin to tell you what a comfort it is to be home again and back in my usual meditation routine. To slip into that space of quiet and calm and to let go the worries and thoughts that crowd my mind in waking hours. To remember my eternal soul, and the wonder of our unfolding journeys. To connect with those I love, near and far, here and departed from the physical realms.

Always, at the end of each session, I send peace and love out into the world. I send healing to mother earth. I send love and healing to my family and loved ones, to my clients and students, to all of you. I pray for your well-being. I pray that you know how precious you are and that you come to understand that you are never alone – you are loved and thought of by so many souls you may never meet in this lifetime. I know that as I do this there are other souls in meditation across the globe engaged in similar activity. I feel their sparks of light travelling out into the world and I am renewed in my own spirit, no matter what I might be facing when I open my eyes and come back into the flow of my life again.

I just wanted to remind you that even though the media will most often show the world as being crazy and highlight the worst of humanity’s actions, there is actually a swelling number of souls sitting in peace, holding space for peace, and shining love and light out into the world.

You can too, just by sitting quietly and going within. If the only person your meditation practice ever benefits and changes is you, by helping you to find that quiet calm space within you, and by helping you feel your own connection to all that is, then you have contributed to positive change in the world. Don’t ever underestimate the power of a small action.

Sending so much love your way. Nicole ❤ xx

Feeling Extra Tired Right Now?

“Most of the things we need to be most fully alive never come in busyness. They grow in rest.”
~ Mark Buchanan

Hello, Lovely Lightworkers!

Feeling extra tired right now? I’m not surprised. No, there is nothing seriously wrong with you, but I am prescribing a lot of extra rest this weekend.

I always plan my retreats around moon phases and astrological energies, and my recent Accelerated Channelling course was run a few weeks ago for two reasons:

  1. It was the perfect time for accelerated spiritual and psychic growth, and
  2. the weeks following the retreat were aligned with providing rest and consolidation for my students’ big energetic changes

You may not have come on my retreat, but if you are energetically sensitive, intuitive or empathic you too will have been affected by recent astrological events. You too will have ‘levelled up’, clearing lots of old pain and grief (including past life and ancestral work), and raising your spiritual vibration.

Spiritual work and self work is the hardest work you can do. It’s been a time of huge growth for us in these energies of 2016. Now what’s needed is rest, quiet time, time spent on pleasure and in the company of people you cherish, and time in nature.

Can you find some of that time for yourself this weekend and in the coming few weeks?

You’ll also find it beneficial to sit and daydream positive thoughts about the future, to journal and work with your oracle or tarot cards, to draw and plan and go within. So many answers and insights await you.

Sending so much love your way, Nicole xx

For Success – Just Be Who You Are

“The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.”
~ C.G. Jung

“Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It’s about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to be honest. The choice to let our true selves be seen.”
~ Brené Brown

It’s Monday (or almost Monday if you don’t live in Australia like me!), and this week I have some important advice for you.

This week, do everything you possibly can to be yourself. Speak with your own voice, write in your own voice, dress to reflect your values and personality, in relationships be you, in business be you.

This might be hard if you haven’t been yourself for a while. You may even need to go spend time with yourself to remember what you truly enjoy, or to discover or uncover your true tastes and preferences. As a writer or an artist or a creative you may need some self-examination and experimentation.

You may need to dig deep.

But I promise, there is magic in being your authentic self.

So I encourage you…

Be you.

You may have no idea of the power of that.

In the modern world we are surrounded by clones. People who dress the same, people who speak using the same words and phrases, people who think the same and who offer the same-same-same. This is true of big businesses and small businesses too. So much of what you see are outright copies or  weak dilations of the same themes and concepts.

In a world where there is so much competition, and so much fakery, all you need to do to truly stand out is to be yourself.

In business, or thinking of starting one? The tracking of purchasing decisions shows a growing movement towards arthouse, bespoke pieces, to brands and products with history, story and authenticity. Many buyers want to make an emotional connection. They crave authentic and individual over commercial and mass-produced. Your story connects with them and validates them. Your individuality helps them to define themselves.

In work, in love, in what you teach, in what you share, in your creations and your home space, in how you dress and speak and live, just be who you are.

Trying to be someone else, trying to copy someone else won’t work unless you truly resonate with what they are doing.

You really can succeed doing it your way, and staying true to you. In fact, that is your magic. Your own personal secret ingredient.

When you build your life or your business with integrity it might be a slower process but it will have a steady foundation and chances are it will stay built.

Your gift to the world is your authentic self. It’s who you came here to be. There is nothing more powerful or dynamic than that. Nothing more beautiful or true.

Be you. That’s your gift. That’s your magic.

10 Simple Ways To Honour Your Spirit

“We are like islands in the sea, separate on the surface but connected in the deep.”
~ William James

Here are my favourite ways to honour your soul and to acknowledge and deepen spiritual connection and intuitive wisdom:

  1. Talk to the Divine/God/Your Guides/Ancestors/Angels/Fairies/Mother Earth – know that you are heard
  2. Spend time in nature – it’s good for the Soul
  3. Learn to meditate. Practice often!
  4. Live in the moment
  5. Be aware of your body, your breath, your thoughts, your actions
  6. Be brave – love deeply
  7. Treat yourself and others kindly and without judgement
  8. Make time for spiritual exploration – be creative and use what you’re drawn to
  9. Trust your intuition – it’s like a muscle; the more you use it the stronger it gets
  10. Love and approve of yourself as you are NOW

You’re in my thoughts, prayers and meditations. Know that you are loved.
