“When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hang on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.” ~ Harriet Beecher Stowe
So here we are in 2013. It’s shaping up to be a great year. If you haven’t checked it out already here’s what I have to say about 2013 here:
2013 – Guidance For The Year Ahead
But maybe you’re just not feeling it yet. Maybe you’re feeling a little lost, exhausted, down, directionless, or simply without the passion you’d like to be bringing into a new year.
Well guess what?
It’s not you. And you’re not alone.
You’ll be comforted to know that we’re still in the throes of that big ol’ energy of 2012. It’s been a huge year, and for many, a tough one. Right now we’re still in that mop-up place. Tidying up loose ends, cleaning up the mess, catching our breath…
2013’s magic doesn’t even begin to kick in until early February. So if you’re just not feeling it yet, if you haven’t got the New Year Mojo, take comfort.
I created a meditation a while ago especially for this – for letting go of 2012 and putting it behind us. Here’s the link:
A Guided Meditation for the End of 2012

And for now there is plenty that you can do to make the most of this time of transition. Here are some suggestions:
- Rest. Don’t go launching into new projects just yet. Instead use this time to put positive changes in place that will support you to make the most of the opportunities available to you in 2013. Look after your health, and clean up the remnants of 2012. Potter around. Go slow. It’s okay to do that right now.
- Plan. Planning is a very worthwhile exercise. Spend some time thinking about what you want to put into place this year. Journal that. Make lists from that. Get clear in your head about where you’re going, even though you haven’t started yet. What learning might you need? What resources? What time frames? What support and connections? What space will you use?
- Tidy. Yep, you heard me right. Go through your cupboards. Get your desk in order. Weed the flower bed. Plant vegetables. Find a cleaner or a gardener. Get ready for the new year.
- Meditate. Spend time in nature. Nurture your connection with God, Oneness, the Universe, Guides, Guardian Angels, Earth or whatever you call that Greater Energy in our lives.

Be gentle with yourself right now. Be patient. Be kind. And extend that energy to others. That’s what being a Lightworker is all about. Bless ♥ xx
So reassuring, thank you! Been feeling stuck in the past, a loop of self recrimination lately for not breaking free. Seems like gravity has been extra-strong around here. Glad you see a little lightness up ahead!
Perfect timing as usual dear Nicole. Much needed and gratefully received.
OOOOOOOHHHHH how this resonates with me! It’s things I’ve been whispering to myself AND to my dear ones in my life. Yes, I’ve tapped into this “not quite yet, still in the grittyness” of it feeling! I have felt this movement to get focused, clear AND to rest, rest, rest. i love how you OK planning! Yes, it IS ok to plan!!! Love to you! Lisa http://www.barefootbarn.com
Excellent timing! last year WAS awful. So awful I am almost afraid to say I’m looking forward to the period between Jan 30 and Feb 18 when all the planets will be direct, which almost never happens. Each I looked forward to an aspect last year, it ended up being a disaster – Thank goodness I’m ahead on the tidying up though!
Yes, yes and yes. So ridiculously spot on 🙂 xoxo
SOOOO resonated for me. Doing lots of planning and playing with creative ideas instead of beating myself up about the ‘shoulds’…
Nicole – this is exactly how I am feeling at the moment! Flat and unenthusiastic about 2013.
It was a very interesting coincidence though – as I read this, a beautiful butterfly flew past my window, then turned around and flew back before taking off. I am sure that meant something – it’s been a long time since I even saw one, and it seemed like a message for me 🙂
Wow….Thank you Nicole, you have reaffirmed my faith to hang in there and reminded me I’m not alone. As 2013 has started much the same way as 2012 it’s reassuring to know that it is coming to its end.
nicole, did you sleep in my head last night? hope you didn’t, for you sake, but this post is uber relevant today! cheers and sparkles to you! sx :o)
Nicole, you are awesome! I adore this post! Thank you, thank you, thank you! <3
Were you at my place yesterday? 🙂 these are the exact topics I was discussing with my partner, then last night I tried to connect to your meditation link but was unsuccessful… Thank you for reassuring me my feelings are ok x
Wow Nicole,
reading this gave me an ah ha moment following some thoughts an feeling I have been having as i move into what I know will be an abundant and bold 2013 where so many of us will shine in new ways.
That is so reaffirming- this morning I was thinking about adjusting my Jan plan so I could start that decluttering and cleartring in a more intense way and I came here and read what you are saying. Yesterday I started relooking at my business and brainstorming. Thanks for sharing your spirit, your soul and your wisdom. Now to the beach and sea to recharge for the day Namaste xxoo
Phew! Thank goodness…I thought it was just me, and I’m a normally highly motivated individual. It seems that I didn’t feel like I was getting that rest until the first week of January, and I’m very slowly getting back into anywhere near my normal organised and action-orientated self. Now I don’t feel so bad about the gradual return rather than my normal ‘cold turkey’ approach. Definitely dragging my feet. February sounds good…daughter back at school and I can start 2013 in earnest. Thanks for this timely post! 🙂
I sometimes feel you are writing to me personally. Thankyou for your beautiful insight and sharing
Good morning, Nicole. Once again, you have worked your magic with words & managed to tune in to what many of us are experiencing at the moment. Thanks so much for the reminder for us not to be afraid to ease back into a lower gear & be kind & gentle to ourselves. A well planned slower journey is ever so more enjoyable….stop to smell the roses & enjoy every moment of each & every day. Bless you, dear friend. xx ♥
