The Joy and Horror Of A New Computer

“A computer lets you make more mistakes faster than any other invention with the possible exceptions of handguns and Tequila.”
~ Mitch Ratcliffe

I have a new computer.

It’s been sitting in a box beside my desk for weeks. I knew I needed to change over from my old one, but I had tight deadlines for a project, and on my old computer I know where everything is and how to use it. I’ve thrashed my old laptop and it’s only a matter of time before it dies. It takes forever to start, to do anything significant or to crunch anything big. I need to get onto my new computer quite urgently.

I finished that project yesterday, so it was time. It took most of the day to migrate all my files across. A techie friend did it for me.

I’m trying to love my new laptop but it’s not behaving. The fan is noisy and constantly running and my laptop is overheating. I can tell there’s something seriously wrong and I’m going to have to return today it for repair or replacement.

Sigh.

Now my old computer is stripped and my new one is faulty and I think the Universe must be telling me I need some downtime. If you don’t hear from me it will be because I’m computer-free, and not in a good way.

Much love from a very grumpy Nicole 🙁

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.

  1. oh how frustrating! Maybe downtime is a good idea. I swear computers these days are not the helpful, useful tools they once were. I am currently fighting with mine just trying to get it to sync to the cloud. It’s definitely full of uncooperative, surly gremlins.

  2. I feel your pain and share it! My desktop less tha two years old ‘died’ June 23rd and then my internet crashed and I have been three weesk without that. I still havent got the desktop fixed( warranty dispute) and my laptop continually warns its running out of memory.I find it small and hard to see and I really miss my desktop- so maybe mercury retrograde is telling me to cool it too. I had project i was struggling with and I havent been able to do anyhting to it.

  3. Oops…. frustrating and a hassle.
I think you wrote something a little while ago about slowing down and looking after yourself. Have some down time, sleep a little extra or enjoy some time in nature or with friends. You deserve it. Hope it gets fixed/sorted soon though! New products should work😘

  4. Typical Mercury retrograde. Sorry that you’re going through this. It’s so frustrating dealing with faulty technology. Hope things are fixed for you soon.
