It has been said, ‘time heals all wounds.’ I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens. But it is never gone.

Hey, Lovelies.
Christmas is not always an easy time. There are many of us for whom Christmas brings stark reminders of families broken, loved ones lost, and empty chairs at our tables. COVID has also created gaps in our families, and difficulties in being able to be together with loved ones due to travel restrictions and health concerns.
I have found it helpful and healing to make a private little Christmas Altar each year. This way I remember the dead, the absent, the lost. An altar is simply a small dedicated spiritual space that is meaningful to you in some way. Creating a simple ritual for yourself around honouring your loved ones at Christmas is both healing and empowering.
To make the altar I’ll choose a place in my home that can be seen but that will not be disturbed. It could be a corner of a cabinet, a coffee table, space in a bookcase, or on a shelf. You can also create a space just for this special purpose.
On my altar I will place fresh flowers, a candle and some favourite crystals – things that bring me comfort, and a sense of sacred. Then I’ll place photos or objects that represent a loved one who will not be at my table. That way I can still have them near me, and I can flow love to them and have them be part of my life over the festive season.
On Christmas Eve I will add a glass of sherry and some fruitcake, and a few little edible treats. Later, I will play Christmas Carols that my grandparents used to love, and I will drink sherry and eat fruitcake and think of them.
I’ll do something similar on Christmas Day too.
It’s not the same as having loved ones at my table, but it’s the next best thing. It creates an energy of connection and inclusion, and it can help with better managing the sense of absence or loss you may be feeling.
Perhaps making your own Christmas Altar will help you cope better in the days ahead.
Know that I’m thinking of you, and sending so much love your way, Nicole 🙏😘💖
