How To Clear Old Fears And Stuck Emotions

Highly sensitive people are too often perceived as weaklings or damaged goods. To feel intensely is not a symptom of weakness, it is the trademark of the truly alive and compassionate. It is not the empath who is broken, it is society that has become dysfunctional and emotionally disabled. There is no shame in expressing your authentic feelings. Those who are at times described as being a ‘hot mess’ or having ‘too many issues’ are the very fabric of what keeps the dream alive for a more caring, humane world. Never be ashamed to let your tears shine a light in this world.

Anthon St. Maarten

Hello, Lovelies.

This last quarter of 2019 is certainly stirring up some old deep hurts, some old unhelpful patterns, and more old negative and limiting beliefs.

I’ve had an avalanche of messages in my inbox from people worrying that they are sliding backwards mentally or emotionally as their insecurities flood in, or they bicker or fight with loved ones, or have a sudden rush of anxiety.

So, firstly, let me reassure you. You’re NOT going backwards. This stuff is coming up because, as your vibration shifts and uplevels, these old energies are no longer in alignment with who you’re becoming. It’s time to clear it, and make room for something new to take its place.

Here are my top three ways to clear these old energies:

1. Bring what’s hidden into the light. If there is shame, guilt or trauma, share your story with a trusted friend, or with a qualified therapist. Speaking it and owning it also gives you control over it, rather than it controlling you.

2. Shake it up. Feel into your body and emotions and then move this stuck energy with movement and sound. Dance, drum, cry, shout, pound pillows – whatever it takes to feel, express and expel these trapped emotions. Music can be a great help here, and so can exercise.

3. Write it out. Take out some paper and then use any of the following prompts to get those words flowing. Once you’ve written what you need to rip the pages up, shred them, burn them or bin them.

Remember to speak lovingly and reasuringly to yourself (or to anyone else going through shift) right now. Remind yourself that this is old wounds and old feelings, and that none of this is your current reality. It’s like shedding the skin of the person you once were. It may make you feel a little vulnerable for a short time, but you’ll soon step into a stronger, clearer, upgraded version of yourself.

Guided Healing Meditation

I’ve also recorded a short guided meditation to help you to breathe into these stuck emotions, moving them out of the body and creating space that can be filled with peace, flow, love, light and hope.

The meditation is structured around the Tonglen meditation practice of breathing in pain and suffering, and breathing out peace and comfort. It is simple but effective. It is something I do as part of my self-care routine every day.
